WipEout HD Patch 2.10 coming soonMikel Arrien, Partner Marketing Executive, SCEE has written on the European Playstation Blog and has mentioned about an upcoming patch for Wipeout that will take the game to version 2.10.
The 2.10 Update makes some small improvements to front-end functionality and addresses some minor issues with the audio. In addition, small issues that could affect gameplay or scores in the Eliminator and Detonator game modes have also been corrected.
Changes have also been made so that any adverts shown during loading screens will not adversely affect the loading times of the title. As many of you know, the functionality to display adverts during loading screens was first introduced in the 2.0 Update and originally didn’t function as intended, leading to extended loading times in some areas of the game.
This issue has now been resolved and we understand that a new advertising campaign in Wipeout HD is expected to launch across a number of European territories soon (no word yet on what is happening in North America). In the meantime, a range of PlayStation-specific ads will be making an appearance in the coming days.

Delay for upcoming LittleBigPlanet contentIt had been quiet on the the DLC side of LittleBigPlanet since the holidays, but after the ‘announcement’ that they would resume starting January 22th many LBP owners looked forward to what they had up their sleeves.
MusterBuster announced on the official EU PlayStation Forum that there is a small delay
Unfortunately, we’re not going to be able to release what we had planned at this time, so the wait is going to be just a little longer before the new year’s content updates start to arrive.
With that said, as compensation he offered to show us they have planned for us until the end of February starting on January 26th with the first seasonal outfit.
The Chinese New Year Costumes will only be available for 1 week. Same goes for the Groundhog Day costume, which will be available a few days later.
On the same the same day as the Groundhog Day costume, Media Molecule will introduce a God of War pack which will include a Medusa, Minotaur costume and a bunch of themed stickers to help you recreate ancient Greece in your game. There is also a Kratos costume but that one will not be in the pack and most likely be sold separately.
Followed by the official “Month of Love” LBP will offer you a special Valentine Day mini pack which will be available for two weeks.
And the one I’m looking most forward to is the WipeOut content pack. It will include costumes and stickers but I hope they suprise use with a little level as well. Date: February 19th.
Also expected are a Ape Escape and Toro costume, dated for February 12th
There is no price yet for the packs or costumes, but we’ll keep you posted on that. And MusterBuster reminded us that the schedule can change at any given moment.

Evolution and WipEout Team to mergeEvolution Studios, creators of the MotorStorm series (purchased by Sony in 2007) are set to merge with the WipeOut team. The WipeOur team run under the name of Sony Studio Liverpool and are set to be under the same roof as the people at Evolution Studios.
Michael Denny head of Sony Worldwide Studios in Europe tells Gamesindustry.biz about the relationship between the two studios.
[Y]ou may be aware that Evolution and our Liverpool Studio have now merged in terms of management structure and using combined resources. Liverpool had great success this year with Wipeout HD and they also helped on MotorStorm as well.
Each studio has its own internal concepting group which will always be looking at new opportunities and new IPs, and we’ll continue to extend and innovate within our existing franchises as well.
When asked about a possible merge in the future, Denny responded with:
Yes, it was always the intention with them being in the same geographic location and working so closely together, it would be ideal if they could be housed at some point within the same site, but it’s not happening overnight.
When the two studios do merge, what can we expect from them? WipeStorm?

Clash of the socialsSo Microsoft set a date for their social network update named New Xbox Experience. Sony still has the Tokyo Game Show to do the same with Playstation Home. The only word we have is that Japan can expect an unofficial opening/release at the end of the month.
A reason why I think it’s better to release the Home open beta before the Xbox Avatars show up is that we know it’s in people’s nature to compare what they have to something else. By doing this with Home it can have sort of an advantage. People will compare the ability to meet up in a game room where you can see and actively interact together rather then a chat channel where you can only talk/chat to each other and hardly roam around. Or wait in a room chatting to people who will minutes later shoot you down like a fly being splattered and then bow before this person as respect for that.
If Microsoft releases the New Xbox Experience first, people will look at its features and what Home doesn’t have and say (Home) is weak.
There are still some things that need to be fixed to ensure it will not become a debacle. It is also not certain with how much content Home will have available when it gets its ‘open beta’ tag. With content we mean, the choice in clothing, furniture and 3rd party developer input. Also loading times are an issue with some. The first time you enter an area will take some major loading time after that the load time will be less but still present when entering/exiting certain area in Home.
Despite not having all the features as we were told when home was first introduced, the ‘basic package’ can still offer enough challenge in this enhanced socializing competition.
Is there more then just wandering around an area socializing to expand your friends list which will hopefully not hamper your WipeOut experience. Or play the 2nd fastest selling game on the Playstation 3 to build up team spirit/-work for the clan.
There is at least that is my opinion.
With Web 2.0 and the rise of social networking sites, an addition like this is a step in the same direction. Of course it can get dull but it’s about interacting and since online battles have increased it is simple to add such a feature to ensure that the people stay behind the console. They are doing this with the Playstation Video Store and PlayTV.
Though Home and the New Xbox Experience add something new, not everybody sees the use of these additions as useful, but more as a gimmick. And that is the group that both Sony and Microsoft must face and convince if they want their social product to be a hit. How do you convince people that such features will enhance your multimedia experience, increase your (online) social contact and bring an extra addition to your console. That question will probably be answered in the upcoming months as the consoles battle for our attention.
(This story is not the opinion of Talkplaystation itself and/or its other writers.)

WipEout HD Gets Priced for UKThe future racer just got priced by Sony. The price for the remake will be £11.99. Its surprisingly cheap than everybody was expecting.
That, for just over a tenner, is a bargain especially if you haven’t even played the PSP original, WipEout Pure.
The date for the game still has not been announced, but CVG says one will be announced real soon.

For those of you who are waiting for the release of Wipeout HD, you could be waiting a little longer. Wipeout HD didn’t attend E3 at all, not one mention of it. I bet your wondering where the hell the game is. Believe it or not, Wipeout HD has failed epilepsy tests and has to be re-engineered before it can go on sale.
All the strobe lighting effects and speed is apparently too much for your eyes. No further information is available just yet.

If your wondering where Wipeout HD is… it has been delayed because of technical issues. David Reeves, Boss of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has said:
“There is a specific technical problem with WipEout that we have to solve. I can’t go into details but it is a really, really tricky technical problem that no region has been able to solve at the moment,”
“I think it will come out before the end of the year but it is something that was just very difficult to get to grips with.”
For those that were wondering and waiting for this game. Looks like you will have to play Fatal Inertia Ex for the time being, check out the screenshots for it.
