Our story had not even hit the search engines properly and they already pulled the advertisements from WipeOut HD.

Many sites posted prior to us about WipeOut HD getting in-game advertisements by Double Fusion. Claims were it would not affect ‘gameplay’. Though the SCEE region didn’t have them yet in the US gamers were furious when they discovered that the loading time when starting a game had almost doubled.

In this controversy SCEA decided to pull the in-game ad future from the game.

The ad has been removed from WipEout HD and we are investigating the situation to ensure that any in-game advertising does not affect gameplay

The voice of gamers is strong in this console generation.

You probably don’t remember the story we wrote on Double Fusion signing up as an in-game advertisment supplier for PlayStation games. WipeOut HD is their latest ‘casualty’.

By introducing high-resolution dynamic video ads into WipEout HD, Double Fusion is responding to advertiser demand and offering an engaging ad format while pushing in-game ad innovation to a new level

The title is one of the most popular and visually stunning available on the PlayStation Network and a perfect vehicle to connect advertisers to a captivated audience. It comes as no surprise that advertisers have already signed up for WipEout HD even before the launch of the new video ad units in the game

From what the people over at IGN understood from that converstation is that the ads won’t appear during gameplay but only during loading screens. Better then in-game right?

metal gear online 05 European PlayStation Store update, December 24th 2008

One day later then the North American store update, but with a lot of goodies, the delay from yesterday seems to be already forgotten by most people as the highly anticipated LittleBigPlanet Pack is out. There is no pack that includes the costumes and level so you will have to purchase them both separately.
Also out is Savage Moon, a frantic, action-packed tower defense game in a gritty sci-fi setting. Expect to see the WipeOut HD and Metal Gear Online demo’s on there (expect an event from us soon) as well as the latest Buzz add-on and some special seasonal offers. Behind-the-Scenes: The Making of wipEout HD

After reporting about the bug in WipeOut HD many people were worried about purchasing the game. Either because they were worried that their PS3 would get stuck known with games like Uncharted, or they couldn’t play online because of their huge friends list.

Studio Liverpool has (finally) released a patch for the friends list bug where you weren’t able to play online (or had major slowdowns in menu’s). When you start up you WipeOut game you will be requested to install the patch.
There some bad news though. If you had issues with the game, you will be required to manually delete your save file after installing the patch. This means you will lose all you lap times, team loyalties, single-player stats and options.
You will however not lose you trophies and leaderboard scores.

So question to our readers, it is worth losing all you stats, lap times and team loyalties to finally play online with you friends? My opinion is if you have more then 50 of them who own WipeOut HD you do, if it’s less, delete some till you have around 40 patch up try the game and see if it works. Don’t forget to message your friends to re-add you, as it would be crazy to re-add them all yourself.

Update: Seems the patch did more then only fix the friends list bug. It also improved the Music Playback, Custom Playlist playback, online stability and accurate tracking of tournament scores.

Another fix was the ability to switch between Tournament End Race results in Online Multiplayer using the square button.

You can read about these fixes yourself in the Online section under the announcements tab.

First WipeOut HD bug
Posted on September 25th, 2008 at 10:31 PM by Ves

Seems the first bug for WipeOut HD is already here. One of the guys over at TheSixthAxis encountered a bug when trying to use the friends feature or play online. What they got was the game hanging in certain menu’s or even crashing.

It seems that when you have more then 50 friends in your list this ‘bug’ will bite you in the ass. They tested to confirm this and it was true. After deleting 30 friends the problem disappeared and they were able to play online. No word from them if the game menu still hang.

Note: This happened with the final testing version of WipeOut HD that they got a day earlier.
