Final Fantasy XIII release date announcedIt’s finally official, Final Fantasy XIII will launch on March 9, 2010. Four years after it was announced the game will finally reach North America and Europe. Months later then it’s Japanese release date.
John Yamamoto, President of Square Enix, Inc had this to say
We know that our fans have been eagerly awaiting the next installation of the franchise Final Fantasy XIII will exceed all expectations. Coming simultaneously to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for the first time, Final Fantasy XIII will be available to all players who are looking for the most immersive gaming experience of 2010
This might sound weird, but I’m advising all gamers to save their holiday money which they intent to use to buy games with christmas and use it for games in the first 5 months of 2010 as this schedule is going to be packed!

Final Fantasy XIII New Character RevealIn a recent issue of V-Jump, a character seen in the E3 2009 Trailer has been revealed. The silver haired figure that can be seen at the bottom of the post is Yaag Rosch. He’s a lieutenant colonel, and is the rival against Lighning and her colleagues. His role in the game is closely similar to those of the Turks in Final Fantasy VII. He has the desire for peace with Cocoon’s citizens.
Also, the summon Odin Gestalt can transform into a lightning horse, much how like the Shiva sisters can transform into motorcycles. His list of attacks are Roaring Sword, Vacuum Breaker, Crying Heaven Ten Thousand Thunder. His signature attack has also made the return, Zantetsuken.
The game is continued for a Winter 09 release in Japan, hopefully a confirmation will arise within the Tokyo Game Show.

With a statement going out by the Sony PR department on the PlayStation Portable and “competitive Landscape”, SCEA director of hardware marketing John Koller had the following to say
If Nintendo is really committed to reaching a broader, more diverse audience of gamers beyond the “kids” market that they’ve always engaged, there isn’t much new with the DSi to support that. Significant gamer demographic groups are being ignored, and there continues to be limited opportunities for games from external publishers to do well on the DSi. Compare that with the PSP platform, where we have many blockbuster franchises from our publishing partners launching this year, representing a wide variety of genres and targeting diverse demographics. Games such as Rock Band Unplugged from MTV Games, Assassin’s Creed from Ubisoft, Dissidia Final Fantasy from Square Enix, and Hannah Montana from Disney demonstrate the commitment that publishers have to the PSP. From our own first-party studios, we’re launching unique versions of LittleBigPlanet and MotorStorm, and we’re also planning a steady stream of downloadable games — both new titles and PSone classics — to add to the content that PSP owners can already purchase wirelessly through PlayStation Store
Sony is doing their best to keep the PSP platform alive, and it’s working with the recent success of Resistence: Retribution, SCE might have found a way to tackle that problem, just make the games yourself (duh).

Square Enix licence Fallout 3 engineFinal Fantasy creators, Square Enix have licenced the Gamebryo Engine from Emergent. Gamebryo Engine powers the successful Fallout 3 game, we’re wondering what Square Enix will do with the engine, maybe they want to create a new RPG and drift away from Final Fantasy for a while.
Gamebryo offers a flexible framework, allowing us to develop effectively and efficiently for any target platforms
We think Square Enix have an AAA title lined up and are using this engine to develop it.

Square Enix bid for EidosFinal Fantasy creators Square Enix have placed a bid to take over publisher Eidos. The bid amount is believed to be around the £84.3 million mark.
President of Square Enix Yoichi Wada said:
Eidos is a talented developer and publisher of interactive entertainment products with a broad portfolio of highly successful mass market franchises, led by Tomb Raider, one of the most successful videogame franchises of all time.
We believe that wide range of both companies’ quality products encompassing major genres will enable us to meet diversified customers’ expectations upon a global basis.
If Square do take over Eidos, i wonder what the next Tomb Raider game be like?
The bid hasnt been approved yet.

VG247 was able to get a confirmation from Square Enix about a possible release of Dissidia: Final Fantasy in Europe. They had this to say
We’ll be making an announcement on the release timing later this month
The PlayStation Portable game is already out in Japan and soon in North America, but Europe (and other PAL regions) were not sure if they would see the game. But now we will.

FFXIII Kickoff TrailerWith the timer hitting zero on the official Final Fantasy XIII website, a new trailer was shown. It showed the battle system that will be used in the game. You’ll see some familiar faces, and learn on what at least is happening in the game.

Many of you probably haven’t heard of Square Enix’s tower defense game, Final Fantasy Crystal Defenders. It was originally a mobile game for cell phones in Japan only. Later on, it was made as an application for iPhone users.
Crystal defenders takes place under Final Fantasy A2’s universe. The game will make an appearance next week for Wii users, only available to Japan. Square Enix is already hard at work on porting the game for the PlayStation 3, most likely in the PlayStation Network category. It will be titled Final Fantasy Crystal Defenders R1. This game will only be available to Japan, but their may be plans for a release out of Japan. It’s already localized to English.
Nothing was released if the PlayStation 3 version will be an upgrade of the original mobile game.

FFXIII and FFvXIII Sites Goes LiveSquare Enix has just opened up the sites to the most anticipated title’s Final Fantasy XIII, and Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Unfortunately it’s in Japanese for now, but it’s still better than nothing.
Included on the site are character bios. The only three characters revealed are Lightning, Snow Villiers, and Oerba Dia Vanille.

In December European gamers were relieved when we informed them that Disgaea 3 would still be coming to Europe and was expected early 2009. Now were glad to announce that the game will be available from February 20th to everybody in Europe and other PAL regions.
Though many are still hart broken about Square Enix betrayal, seeing this PlayStation 3 exclusive might ease the daily confrontation they face. Others doubt if it worth picking up as graphics look like it’s from the PlayStation 2.
