I bet you expected this but Killzone 2 has broke Playstation 3’s first party pre-order records. First week sales of Killzone 2 are expected to surpass previous first party titles such as Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet and Gran Turismo 5: Prologue.

VGChartz.com can confirm that they recieved confirmation from Sony Computer Entertainment America that Killzone 2 is the highest pre-ordered first party title to date. Furthermore, SCEA looked at the pre-order data two weeks out from launch for the shoot ‘em up and measured it against the same timeframe for other major first party software.

Can’t wait to see the actual numbers.

Sony Computer Entertainment America’s director of hardware marketing John Kollers believe the Playstation Portable will see significant growth next year.

“I think going into next year we’re going to see significant growth. We’re counseling retail to be ready for it. We have a number of very strong franchise games on the docket that will be launching next year. We haven’t gone public with those, and many third-parties have not yet either because they’re concentrating on holiday, but we have a number of very strong titles coming.”

“The recipe for success on the PSP resides simply in providing franchise games that are strong brand names like on consoles, but have unique gameplay on the system,”

“We’ve gone to every publisher and they’ve been noticing the hardware is on fire,”

After being on the phone to Sony UK and Sony USA regarding firmware 2.40 and bricked Playstation 3’s, they told me that they will replace your PS3’s free of charge as long as you can prove its really bricked and not working with firmware 2.40 installed. How the hell are you supposed to do that? But beware, they will ask a horde of questions such as ‘when was the system last working’ and ‘try switching it on now’ etc. Act serious and down to earth because chances are they won’t believe you.

For those of you with a bricked PS3, Sony said that they will send a replacement unit (most likely a refurbished unit) within 2-3 working days, a courier will pick up your bricked unit and give you your replacement unit. Not sure what happens next though, i presume thats it.

For those of you that don’t know what a bricked PS3 is, its basically a broken, non functional PS3.

Here’s some customer service numbers:

UK: 08705 99 88 77

USA: 1-800-345-7669

For those of you phoning customer service, good luck!

According to joystiq’s Christopher Grant, Sony is trying to come up with a Bungie.net style community website for its games. During Christopher’s visit to Sony’s Pre-E3 Judge’s Event in LA, he noticed a recurring phrase in his handbook and that phrase was community website. it’s possible that Sony will make this happen.

LittleBigPlanet – While they’re “not decided yet” on exactly how to integrate the game into a community website, if any mechanic seems ripe for such a project, rankings and stats for LBP’s user-generated content seem like a sure bet.

Killzone 2 – There already is a my.killzone.com site for Killzone: Liberation, but adding “rankings and statistics” for Killzone 2 is the plan.

SOCOM: Confrontation – They plan on launching a community site – think “My SOCOM” – on SOCOM.com. There’s nothing there now, and MySOCOM.com is taken.

Motorstorm: Pacific Rim – The Motorstorm representative wasn’t very interested in providing any details, but she told us that they would have a “community website” as well.

Resistance 2 – Insomniac has perhaps the most ambitious plans for community content, dedicating an entire development team to the task. They’re “overhauling” MyResistance.net, adding things along the lines of “facebook-like features.”

So Sony gamers can look forwards to having community style website for their favourite games. Seems like a good idea and look forwards to seeing the sites.

Sony Computer Entertainment America has told the world that the reason behind the delay for Killzone 2 is because of the strong and crowded line up this fall.

“Just wanted to add a quick reply on the “delay” of Killzone 2 to Feb 2009. To be clear, there is nothing wrong or causing a delay to the development of the title. We (SECA) had to look at the fall calendar with SOCOM, LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, Resistance 2, plus some PSN titles and make a decision where each game should come out. Killzone 2 was moved to Feb 2009 to make sure we didn’t have three shooters in the marketplace competing for retail dollars during the same holiday season. The game will be great and it will be out in Feb 2009 in both Europe and North America.

Hope this helps – alot of times we gamers read delay and think something is wrong, in this case, it was a pure management decision.”

Yes thats right, Dualshock 3 has earned Sony $10.9 Million in April. Only available in American and Japan, it earned that much and will probably earn Sony even more when it is released in Europe soon. It looks as though the customers prefer some force feedback in their controllers and paid $54.99 to replace their Sixaxis controller.

Sony will be phasing out the Sixaxis controller as time moves on.

Jack Tretton was very happy when NPD released their monthly sales data for April. Tretton saw sales grow 410% in the US in April. Sales grew because of Grand Theft Auto IV and Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, combined produced a sales surge of over 2 million units.

The president of Sony Computer Entertainment America, Tretton said:

“Clearly, the tremendous legacy of Grand Theft Auto on PlayStation, combined with the blockbuster launch of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue packed a one-two punch with consumers at retail this month,”
