Resistance 2 is due a patch that will take the game version to 1.50. It’s nice to see Insomniac caring about their games, below are some details about the patch.

  • Meltdown Mode added – Apparently, we will be getting to play in a remake of the classic Resistance 1 multiplayer mode.
  • New co-op difficulty – Superhuman has been added as a mega, ultra-hard mode for the co-operative campaigns.
  • Second player PSN login – The split-screen second player can now login to their own PSN profile and their information, gaming XP, etc. from that session will be saved.

We’ll post more information as we get it.

When PlayStation offered people to vote on which cover would appear on the box art of Resistence 2, some saw their favourite not win it.

A months late(r) but still a good initiative they are now offering you to put in your own Boxart.
On the Official PlayStation Blog, Bryan Intihar Community Manager for Insomniac Games made 3 box arts available.

Just make sure you use a High Quality printer.

Here is a preview of the covers which link directly to the ‘print out’ resolution.

Bit late for this, but here’s a small not to say that the Resistance 2 1.40 patch is now available. When you launch the game you will be prompted to download the update. It weighs in at around 26MB.

Enjoy!

Sony Bend the studio responsible for the upcoming title Resistance: Retribution seems the be the only studio who has a hold on the technology of using a Sixaxis. Developing PSP Plus to be able to use your existing Sixaxis controller and sync it with your PSP via Resistance 2 makes them one of a kind in the Sony game studios.

Sony said they weren’t sure yet if the tech would be passed on to other studios let alone having considering it.

We have a hunch Sony will look how the reception is with the game and how PSP Plus will affect gamers. And it’s success depends mostly on the place people will play it. At home or on the road.

Resistance 2 is expected to be updated just like Fall of Man was to improve the online experience. From Monday 26 Jan 09, patch 1.40 will be available for download. The patch will address the following:

Multiplayer Progression

Some people have seen their competitive and/or cooperative characters reset to level 1. For several of those cases, this patch will not only bring back all the XP, stats, and attributes that you’ve lost, but it will also add to your character profile the XP/stats/attributes that you’ve earned since those levels were reset. For example, say you were a level 20 medic and after being reset to level 1, and you earned 5,000 XP. Thanks to the patch, you’ll return a level 20 medic and that 5,000 XP will be added to your profile.

This patch will also correct some medal and trophy issues, including the “Killing Machine” trophy (if you’ve already accumulated 10,000 kills but haven’t received this trophy, it’ll pop up as soon as you download the patch).

And here are additional 1.40 details:

  • “Salute Me” trophy is not awarded until player reaches level 31 (Lieutenant)
  • “Berserker” trophy can be collected during non-ranked games
  • “Survivor” medal can be collected in cooperative games
  • “Sure Shot” ribbon is awarded if player has accuracy of exactly 50%
  • Added clan support for viewing members, sending invites, and setting up clan tags
  • Default clan region is now USA
  • Unbalanced ranked games are cancelled in staging before the game is started
  • Parties are prevented from matchmaking into free-for-all Deathmatch games
  • Loadouts can be disabled in the “Create Game” screen in competitive games
  • Balanced the chance of dropping large ammo pickups in competitive games
  • Core Control scoreboard displays “Kills”
  • Improved scoreboard formatting
  • Balanced the amount of XP gained by the Medic class in cooperative games
  • Stalker movement enabled in cooperative games
  • Small ammo pickups don’t give LAARK ammo in cooperative games
  • Splash damage on Pulse Cannon can damage the player firing it
  • Rossmore reticule better reflects its accuracy
  • Fire is easier to shake off
  • Players cannot swap weapons in the middle of a melee attack
  • Localized text updates
  • Network message optimizations
  • EULA displays the correct language text for Norwegian, Finnish, Swedish and Danish

There you have it, the nice big list of fixes/additions.

Before we get to the MGS4 topic, Gamasutra gained some exclusive sales data on a couple of PlayStation 3 titles.

Sony has been promoting LittleBigPlanet, hoping it would be a system seller. When first launched the game hardly made a dent on sales. It continued to descend into the month of November. But sales had picked up in December. Bringing the total sales of LittleBigPlanet to 611,000.

The sequel to Resistance which was a launch system seller had fell in the month of December. Resistance 2 had some strong sales in November, but lost the steam into December tallying the total of sales to 598,000.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is a great game, which was emotional and fascinating in quality. From the action to the cutscenes. Game winning Game of the Year from a few sites out there. It’s a great feat that this title has already sold 1,000,000 units. When originally launched back in June, it sold a whopping number of 775,000 units. Between July-December the game only managed to sell 301,000 units, bringing it to one million. Now the sales are only of the boxed versions, it doesn’t include games bundled with PlayStation 3’s.

Dan Hill believes that Playstation Home can become a system seller in the future. Home offers new possibilities for companies to create revenue through advertisements.

In time I would say that Home will definitely become a reason to purchase [PS3]. Today, we are at the beginning of a long journey – now is the time to start its evolution

The PlayStation Network is getting better all the time, and Home is integral to our online offering. If you buy a PS3 and you grow with us, as Home evolves, you are going to become part of something very special, something unlike you can experience anywhere else.

He may be right on the PS3 giving you a certain experience you can’t find anywhere else, but Home becoming a system seller will be out of the question. Home still lacks a certain amount of features which were promised in the beginning. Of course things change to get a quicker release date, but with 2 big delays, a server problem in Europe and a much heated discussion about the micro transaction fees in certain regions that dream will not happen in the next year.

Home is not for everybody and there are different types of users that own a Playstation 3. You have the ones that just want to play a game, the online gamers, the multimedia freaks, the trophy whores collectors and many more types. The experience on the PS3 is different for everybody. And by believing that a majority of those people are willing to pay for stuff that they don’t actually own (read virtual stuff) is pushing it too far to be a system seller.
Major titles like Metal Gear Solid 4, Grand Theft Auto 4 and Resistence 2 those are system seller. It is because these games have history and a solid fan base which are two pillars for a system seller.
