psp2concept2ac4 Dont expect a PSP 2 any time soon

With concepts of a possible PSP 2 hitting the web since the PSP-2000 and the lately ‘leaked’ info about a possible manufacturer, Sony still denies their working on a PSP 2.

No, there are currently no plans for a PSP2. I go to Tokyo quite a lot and no one has referred to it – I think they have their hands full at the moment

Sony’s main focus is to keep improving the PSP with help of the latest version of the PSP-3000 which David Reeves feels still needs to really hit the market. One way is to stimulate the PSP (sales and attention) through methods like a dedicated PSP version of the PlayStation Store for downloadable titles.

Nintendo has been doing this well with the transition from the DS to the DS lite and the now currently flagship DSi. And Mr Reeves hopes the PSP can do the same.

But it has it’s Kryptonite and that is developer dedication.

Its weakness, however, is its software. And that’s because developers, when it comes to placing their bets, have to choose PS3 and 360, then Wii, then DS, maybe even PS2 before PSP. It’s the same at our internal studios, where the focus has been on PS3.

We still believe in the PSP, not because it’s a Playstation product but the innovating technology it brings between the PS3 and the PSP.

Famitsu informed their readers that Tenchu 4 will also be out on the PSP. After being released on the Wii Rikimaru and Ayame will sneak onto your PSP.

There only isn’t much known about this version, like extra levels or special characters but for now we can only conclude it will be similar to the Wii version.

After, DBZ, Naruto and Bleach, Soul Eater following the anime suit of getting an anime. It’s almost like in the US where games become movies. Only these don’t suck.

se3 Soul Eater the next anime on the PSP

First I would like to apologies for our lack of PSP coverage, we cover all Playstation news but sometimes forget about the PS3’s little cousin.

If your a’n anime fan like some of us here on the staff, you probably know this series. It is one of the popular series at the moment together with Bleach and Naruto. So why not give it a game to make it even more popular. Thats what they’re doing in Japan. We can only hope that this game will be out released outside Japan, but we have a feeling it won’t atleast not this part, maybe the 2nd edition once Soul Eater has become popular in the ‘Western world’.

Here are two more screen of how the game will look. Don’t expect anything fancy, and see it as a regular fighting game on your PSP.

VideoGaming247 showed us the sales chart of the japanese market of last week and it looked pretty bad for the PS3.

It’s been out sold by the Xbox 360 for the 4th week running. There is some good news for the Sony camp though. The PSP has sold almost 20000 units more then it’s big brother and 360. Even the PS2 managed to outsell them by a few hundred.

  • DS – 42,385
  • PSP – 26,045
  • Wii – 25,330
  • PS2 – 8,618
  • Xbox 360 – 8,271
  • PS3 – 7,232

What does this mean for the PS3? Will they be forced to lower to price to bring back the sale numbers or are people just waiting and saving their money for this busy game release period and the upcoming new SKU.
MCVUK says it might be the price. Electronic Entertainment Design and Research analyst Jesse Divnich said to Edge Online

The $399 price point is simply too steep to entice the casual and mainstream markets, regardless of how great Resistance 2 and LittleBigPlanet may be.

For some of our readers who where worried and wondering if Gran Turismo would still be coming to the PSP, we have some news for you. Only it’s no release period/date.
gt4mobile 20041001pspboxboxart 160w Gran Turismo for PSP still coming

Shuhei Yoshida said to Eurogamer.net that the game is still in development.
It seems Polyphony Digital is working on this project but because of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and Gran Turismo 5, the PSP version got a backseat until they were properly done with the PS3 versions.

echochromeexpansion1 echochrome expansion on the Playstation Store

You probably missed this part on our weekly Playstation Store update, but we’re letting you know that users on the PSP can purchase the expansion pack for $5. It will increase level of maps with 40.

If you didn’t have the original version already, they will come with a bundle including both the expansion and the original version. So that’s 96 levels to keep keep you entertained.

One interesting fact was that it seems echochrome is taking up all the 333MHz of processing power.

In Japan they can expect access from their PSP to the Playstation Store on October 15th. Making this possible is the 5.00 firmware update that will be included which will put the store under the new XMB category that will be added.
psstore500 PSP Playstation Store launch in the coming week

Also following the rest of the year through out the holiday season will be game releases of Bleach Soul Carnival, Secret Agent Clank and Patapon 2 to name a few.

The most important thing how ever is the ability to download every SCE game from the store which are meant for the PSP. So a title like Resistance Retribution will be found on there once it gets out.

Does this mean the end for the UMD disks. We don’t know, but it does send out a worrying signal for games from 3rd party developers.

No word on when Europe and North America can expect it.

Both Resistance Retribution and Resistance 2 will be able to connect and interact between eachother.

To do this, you’ll need to connect your PSP to the PS3, via USB. Once you have them connected, go to the Resistance 2 options and select “Infect your PSP” What is infect your PSP you say? Well read below to find out what it is.

Infected mode provides an alternate story within our alternate history. While in prison for desertion, Grayson is recruited by Specter Lieutenant David LaSalle (from the R2 storyline) and is infected with a mutated version of the Chimeran virus … a different version of the virus that infects Nathan Hale.

While playing in “infected” mode, Grayson wears a Specter uniform and has glowing Chimeran eyes. He gets to use one of the new weapons from R2: the HE .44 Magnum, which fires explosive rounds that can be triggered remotely. He has regenerative health and no longer needs to look for health packs. He can breathe underwater, allowing him to reach hidden areas that he could not reach before. And we’ve added another whole class of Intel that are hidden throughout the levels. Collecting all of the “infected” intel will unlock another R2 weapon, the Plasma Grenades.

Not only that but they have also announced a new feature called PSP Plus+. PSP Plus+ is a new feature where you’ll be able to connect your PSP to your TV (Limited to PSP 2000, and PSP 3000 models). Then you’ll be able to use your DUALSHOCK 3 to play your PSP games.

The remake of Star Ocean: First Departure for the PSP will see European shores on October 24th.

While it was released in Japan last year, First Departure is a remake of the original Star Ocean title released in 1996 on the SNES. Only this version will have CGI cut scenes, new playable characters and some enhanced visuals.

Despite the game still needing to get out in the US (October 21st) and Europe, another remake of The Second Story named Star Ocean: The Second Evolution will see the light on January 6th, 2009.
