The first rumors regarding this new Wii like controller appeared a couple of months ago and many people want to know more information and whether these rumors are true. If you head over to JustPlay, they have listed a ‘Wireless Handgun’ named JPG-9003 PS3 2.4GHz Wireless Handgun.

The product features are as follows:

  • Compatible with PS3 console
  • Supports all PS3 gun fighting games
  • Supports multi-loop signals without any interference for many
    players playing simultaneously
  • Force signal connect
  • Combines PS3 controller with gun stand for enhancing the operation
  • Can be easily dismantled to use as PS3 wireless controller
  • 2 x AAA alkaline batteries can provide at least 10 hours power continuously
  • Working distance  is up to 10m
  • Auto scan function between the gun and receiver

Here’s what the gun could look like:

As you can see it breaks apart and maybe this confirms that THIS rumor is true about the ‘break apart’ controller.

“According to gamesindustry.biz, Sony Computer Entertainment is working on a new controller for the Playstation 3. This new controller is supposed to feature a break apart aspect to it for example, it will break into two separate units, each of which contains an accelerometer for ‘Wiimote-like’ motion-sensing functionality.”

“Sony Computer Entertainment will therefore hope that, with the ongoing development of the PlayStation Network, the success of Blu-ray as the de facto next generation standard of video, the gradual roll-out of Home later in the year and the release of additional high definition titles over time, it will be able to overwhelmingly position the PS3 as the best all-round home entertainment unit on the market.”

If anything we are sure to be shown something at E3.

Remember that PS3mote thing we mentioned? Well we think this is more information on that.

According to gamesindustry.biz, Sony Computer Entertainment is working on a new controller for the Playstation 3. This new controller is supposed to feature a break apart aspect to it for example, it will break into two separate units, each of which contains an accelerometer for ‘Wiimote-like’ motion-sensing functionality.

This should open up a new genre for the Playstation 3 and with the Wii being so successful it could be a good move.

Maybe we can wait until E3, they could announce something then.

Sony is normally quick at responding to rumors and there are a lot rumors floating around regarding the new ps3motes.

I mean yesterday Eurogamer contacted Sony regarding the Ps3motes and Sony and Eurogamer said this:

“Sony has declined to comment on speculation that it is making its very own Wiimote-style controller for PS3.”

Not only that but last Friday Eurogamer contacted Sony regarding the eagerly anticipated in-game XMB and Eurogamer posted this statement:

“Sony Europe has declined to comment on suggestions the latest PS3 firmware update will include the highly sought after XMB.”

I think Sony want to totally surprise us all with these things. We will have to wait and see.

It seems that the ps3motes we were talking about the other day aren’t so new.

According to this blog:

“Now they had a source to back up the evidence, so it is probably that such a controller is on the works. However, this is not the first time that such a scenario has occurred with Sony. We have heard the rumours of a Playstation 2 which bundled with a ‘wiimote’-like device, the new transforming controller for Playstation 3. Yet, going back to late 2005, it was discovered that Sony had a patent for a device which worked on the Playstation 2, with the use of the Eyetoy by means of light displays from the controller”

Here are some images on how the ps3motes will work and what looked to be on the Playstation 2:

Looks pretty much like how you would set up that seen in the Wii.

It seems as thought the ps3motes have been in development for some time now for the Playstation 2 and eye toy and now they are porting it over to the Playstation 3.

There are rumors floating around that a Playstation 3 version of the WII Remote is in development for the PS3.

Some lucky Playstation 3 owners were sent to a facility in California to test a new product in development – the Playstation 3 Remote.

ps3mote PS3 remote PS3mote information

First of all you can connect 4 PS3motes at one time allowing 4 players playing at the same time. When these PS3 owners arrived at the facility the demonstrator was showing games that ranged from tennis to fencing to a paintballing game. The demonstrator also used the PS3mote to play Quake on his laptop.

The PS3mote is incredibly accurate and responsive.

“The biggest concern of the demonstrator was that for these “PS3motes” to work they needed the tripod, which connected to the PS3’s USB port. It also needed to be set up in the middle of your gaming area, much like a “batter standing above home plate”. So this may not be in the final version as it seemed they were trying to come up with a more convenient method.”

The group was given a number of designs of the PS3mote and was asked to say which one was the best and most comfortable.

For those that are unsure about this rumor here is a copy and paste from an email that was sent to one of the participants

“Focus groups discussing PLAYSTATION®3 games are being held in your area. If you OWN a PLAYSTATION 3, we invite you to participate in a focus group. If you qualify, you will take part in a discussion lasting approximately two hours.

EACH PARTICIPANT WILL BE PAID $85.00!
