It’s normal that rumours of a new console appear after a console has been out for a while. But Sony has been denying time and time again that they are not working on the PlayStation 3’s follower, the PlayStation 4.
Talking to UK magazine T3, Sony said
PS3 won’t celebrate its second birthday in the UK until March of this year, and we’ve said all along that the life-cycle for this generation of hardware will be longer than previous models
PS2 was still going strong after eight years, and with the power the Cell processor provides, not to mention the fact that PS3 is inherently future-proof, we see the PS3 sales curve far outlasting that of PS2
Why would they bring out such news now. It would harm the sales numbers of the PlayStation 3 which has not cemented itself in people’s living room like the PlayStation 2 had done. And it took the PS2 almost 5 years

We’re not working on the Playstation 4Either David Reeves is a pretty bad actor or he’s the next guy will who be fired. The latest rumours suggest that Sony is already working on a PSP 2 which was previously denied by the SCEE President.
Now rumours are spreading again about the Playstation 4 and his response on that was
I’m not even sure if that’s being considered, It’s certainly nothing I can talk about. I have absolutely no knowledge of it whatsoever. Not even sure it’s being planned.
With a claimed lifespan of 10 years for the Playstation 3, starting now for a possible release in 2010-2012 of the PS4, it’s becoming more likely as Microsoft is already starting a buzz for their next console. By that time Microsoft will be able to pick up from the popularity of the ever growing Blu-ray sales and run away with it.
Will Sony have to reconsider their life span for the Playstation 3 or will they let the competition get a head start and believe it the PS3’s true power.

Playstation 4 to use existing Cell processor? There’s a high chance that Sony will be using the existing Cell Broadband Engine architecture in their next generation console, the Playstation 4. Sony will most likely do this to lower the manufacturing costs.
The current plan PS4, Cell BE will be based on the original expansion of the PLAYSTATION + Cell BE appear to be close to a strategy that is in essence be no different.
I’ve just read an interesting article about what could be possible in the PS4, click here to read it.

Crytek Will Love PlayStation 4At a GC in Asia, a keynote speech on the future of graphics in games, the president of Crytek goes on to say that the PlayStation 4 will be the “most important machine of the coming generation.”
During yesterday’s GC Asia keynote speech on the future of gaming graphics, the president and CEO of Crytek, Cevat Yerli emphasised several times how important the next generation of consoles (i.e. PS4 and Xbox 360 II: Electric Boogaloo) will be to a renaissance in gaming graphics that he predicts will arrive in 2011-2012. Not only will the company link its technology development with the console cycles, but it sees the PlayStation 4 as the most important machine of the coming generation, with Yerli stating that “frankly, we are linking ourself to what the PS4 will take up as [its hardware] position; that is the console makeup that will drive all our research, so we cannot wait to know what the [machine] will be about. That’s probably the most important missing information we have right now in our company.”
With the PlayStation 4 a still long ways off, few developers are already looking forward to the next generation of gaming consoles.

Crytek think PS4 will arrive by 2012Crytek, the team behind the Crysis game has said that the Playstation 4 will arrive in 2011 or 2012. At a keynote session during this years Games Convention Developer Conference, Crytek president and CEO Cevat Yerli has said that the new next generation of consoles will be released in 3 to 4 years time.
“The PlayStation 4 and Xbox ‘720′ will arrive in 2011 or 2012, we think,”
“But this is just our estimate – we don’t know, and even if Microsoft and Sony told us, I couldn’t say because it would be under NDA.”
“But we think in three to four years’ time, although there are good reasons why it should be 2010 already…but we’ll see.”
I can’t see it happening to be honest but who knows.
