LittleBigPlanet was a big hit, since then people have been wondering if developers, Media Molecule will ever make a title elsewhere.

We have that very answer here. Sony Computer Entertainment has acquired Media Molecule for an undisclosed sum. So now we can expect all future LittleBigPlanet titles and any other titles Media Molecule happen to be developing be on the Playstation platforms.

Excellent move for Sony.

LittleBigPlanet creators Media Molecule are hard at work on a secret project nobody knows about. Speaking at the VGA 2008 show:-

we’ve been working hard recently getting the secret project ready…

the people in charge would have my thumbs if I was to say anything more.

So what could this secret project be? It is something to do with LittleBigPlanet, we reckon it’s some big ass update/patch. Or it could be a Playstation Portable version of the game.

No one knows yet.

LittleBigBeta over
Posted on October 13th, 2008 at 10:54 PM by Ves
What horrible quality

What horrible quality

We’re sad to announce the closing of the LittleBigPlanet beta. After almost 3 weeks of open beta testing the time to close this chapter of the game has come.

For some it has brought joy as they were able to enter the beta, maybe even prior to the open beta. Other were saddened that they missed out on a beta yet again.
But no worries in about a week (and a few days extra for Europe ) the game will hit retail. And you can finally go all out creating levels, goof around with your friends or even mock other consoles.

But be careful with what you and say as the police will be around the corner watching.

P.S I think Media Molecule found it hard to turn off the switch as well as some reported that they could continue to play even after the deadline that was set. Don’t worry guys, we’ll be back next week with more friends.

Post @ Media Molecule

At the Tokyo Game Show, Media Molecule announced that Solid Snake and Sephiroth will be available in LittleBigPlanet.

It all started with the Helghast thing. It was really funny because we were aware of a lot of possibilities of who we could work with. I remember the first time that Final Fantasy was mentioned, and there was a bet over whether it would be happened since it’s such a precious franchise.

And with Metal Gear, I bought my PS1 for Metal Gear Solid, and I didn’t have a memory card – so I left the game on when I went to work and came home and played some more.

To be involved with MGS is… slightly bizarre. When we were looking at what options as a studio we’d have to work with, they were under the “yeah, right!” category of games.

LittleBigPlanet
and Sackboy have a strong identity and flavor. So then you try to find the translation to Metal Gear and Sephiroth, and the guys that made the characters really brought the flavors of LittleBigPlanet and Metal Gear together and kept the flavor of both of them

[On Final Fantasy collaboration:] It’s a whole universe, and they’ve built up this ethos. And we’re honored to be let into that universe.

LittleBigBlu-ray
Posted on September 11th, 2008 at 11:57 PM by Ves

Alex Evans of Media Molecule was asked a question by gamesindustry.biz, if the Blu-ray disk would be filled. He responded by saying

Erm, yes – I believe a Blu-ray single layer is 20GB and a dual layer is 40GB, but we’re filling up the Blu-ray. One of the things on there is we’re having a lot of tutorial content – basically there are two paths through the game, the player’s route and the creator’s route

The Blu-ray disk will mainly be filled with tutorials, and a lot of video stuff showing exactly how it’s done while being led by the voice of Stephen Fry. To satisfy both creators and gamers they created a two-route thing where you’ve got the fast route to create, and then the player’s route to create, which you enjoy massively.

Thanks to Blu-ray they don’t have to worry about filesize.

Media Molecule has been creating retail specific LittleBigPlanet videos and claim that it’s only the beginning.

Think you’ve seen all the videos out for LBP?  Look again = )  With the limitless possibilities of CREATE in LBP, we took this opportunity to craft a series of exclusive videos tailored to each retailer.  We had a lot of fun adding different personalities and themes for each one, including a custom mail box that we created using the basic tools within LBP.  Imagine what the possibilities are once you start creating your own levels and
objects.

The videos are actually created within LittleBigPlanet which is pretty cool. IF you missed the videos check them out below.

Media Molecule has confirmed that LittleBigPlanet will be released only on Blu-Ray, no Playstation Network version. When LittleBigPlanet was first revealed, it was made as though it was a PSN only title, just user generated content will be available via PSN.

LittleBigPlanet’s U.S. PR manager, Scott Goryl spoke with Joystiq and said:

Media Molecule has confirmed that LittleBigPlanet will be released only on Blu-Ray, no Playstation Network version. When LittleBigPlanet was first revealed, it was made as though it was a PSN only title, just user generated content will be available via PSN.

For those people that were wondering which version to get, there is only one version coming out.

Media Molecule, developers of LittleBigPlanet had a nice big list of plans and ideas for ways to support the community.

Alex Evans, found of Media Molecule told Eurogamer that:

“We’ve got loads of plans, we’re going to support it massively,”

“Content packs, new objects, new game modes… All of this stuff could be done. What we’re basically waiting to see is what the demand is for.”

“We can do all of that stuff – we will do all of that stuff – but what order we do it in, and how much weight we throw behind any of the different ideas that different people have got, is totally down to what the community does,”

“That really excites me, because if people are loving the costumes, we can crank them out. If people are loving the levels and master classes… We’ve got a slightly scarily long list of great ideas for ways to support the community, and it’s just a matter of prioritising at this stage.”

A lot of people are concerned about the pricing of newly added content. Here’s what Alex has to say on the subject:

“All options are open,”

“I can definitely say that there will be content that’s available to people free of charge – I’m just not saying exactly what that content is going to be right now.

“I can also say that if there’s any way we can reward the community, we’ll go there. If people are clamouring for big chunks of content, it would make total sense for us to do it. We’re just exploring all options at this point. Sequels? Why not! DLC? Yeah, why not! Paid-for content? Why not!”

As long as we get some freebies everyone is happy.

Hungry for some more LittleBigPlanet details? Good. LittleBigPlanet will feature a massive 50 levels with bosses at the end of some levels, already packed in the game when you purchase it. There will be many challenges for specific gamers.

You can die in LBP, but there will be checkpoints in the game so if you do manage to die you will respawn at the latest checkpoint. Obviously it will be your choice whether you include checkpoints or not.

A dissapointing announcement is that you cannot play your own music in the game, Media Molecule prefer you to use their own made tracks instead.

With regards to bosses, how about making the boss as hard as possible, giving your friends a hard time?
