According to the Playstation.Blog Life with Playstation is now available. To access this free service you need to first download it by selecting the Folding@Home icon under ‘Network’ on the XMB.

Life with PlayStation provides a stunning interactive globe, a 3D world map that you can twirl around to see live cloud movement courtesy of the University of Wisconsin, combined with up-to-date weather information from the Weather Channel, top news headlines provided by Google news, and live web cam images via the Earth Television Network — all localized to the select city. And why not have your favorite soundtrack playing in the background while you go through your morning ritual (just think, no TV commercials and teasers to find out if you need to bring an umbrella to work)? You’re on your own for your morning caffeine fix.

Here’s a quick run down of all the new features.

We reported earlier that Life with Playstation was available… for some. Sony has now confirmed that this was a mistake and wasn’t supposed to be available.

“Today, while testing the application, Life with PlayStation was available for download temporarily, by mistake,”

Sony are to make an announcement shortly regarding the release date for the application.

“We will make official announcement for the service launch shortly.”

Sony has released the 2.43 firmware update but nobody knows what exactly it does. This is what it could have done. Playstation Lifestyle has posted a short tutorials on how to get into Life with Playstation. Here’s how.

Load up Folding@Home and it will tell you that an update is available, proceed with your download, and restart Folding@Home.

The Folding@Home icon has been replaced with Life With PlayStation

[UPDATE] It is only available for some people.

Noam Rimon from the PlayStation.Blog says the application is on its way, and to wait a bit while longer. They are pushing some paperwork on Life With PlayStation. The application will be free of charge and can be easily accessed through the XMB. 

Life With PlayStation will be combined together with Folding@home. So you’ll be able to browse the news and weather while helping research to find cures for diseases. 

If your new on the Life With PlayStation news here’s a brief description described from the PlayStation Blog

We’re going to offer this as a free service that will be easily accessible directly from the XMB. Life with PlayStation will feed live content to your PS3 with updates on news and weather on a visually stunning and interactive global map. Imagine being able to wake up to your PS3 to see if you need to pack an umbrella for the day. Or just relax as you listen to your favorite tunes while reading up on top news from around the world.

I’m glad to see the application is finally coming.

If you can’t sign in today during the hours of 8 am- 1 pm Pacific Time, then it means the PSN is undergoing a scheduled maintenance. People are probably thinking that this is meant to be for the rumored Extended Beta of Home. But little to nothing is known if the rumor is true. What would be better is if the maintenance means that PS3 users are finally getting Life With PlayStation. Here at the TalkPlayStation, we’ll keep you updated if anything is spotted out of the ordinary.

Maintenance will be undertaken on the “PLAYSTATION(R) NETWORK” between August 26th 16:00-21:00 (BST). During these times, customers may be momentarily unable to connect to the PLAYSTATION(R) Network . Please try after some time should this happen.

Noam Rimon Sr. Development Manager SCEA R&D has posted on the Playstation.Blog with a Playstation Life update. Noam said that you will have to hold tight as he knows many of you are waiting to try out the new service but due “Due to a few procedural matters, the new service will make its way to PlayStation fans in August”.

“Rest assured, Life with PlayStation will be a service that introduces a new way to interact with your PS3. By bringing information from around the world into your living room, Life with PlayStation will offer a variety of interactive content and channels on a visually stunning worldwide map interface.”

I’d say mid to end of August Playstation Life will be available.
