Infinity Ward just uploaded some new gameplay for their upcoming title Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. A new multiplayer mode was shown called Flag Runner. It’s just like Capture the Flag, you’ll be able to run and shoot with the flag. Two new kill streaks was also seen, called Air Drop, and Predator Missile. The riot shield was also shown having the teammate cover the flag carrier. Host migration has also been added, so when the host disconnects, a new host will be automatically chosen. It’ll possibly break up the combat for a few key seconds, but it’s better than not being able to complete a match. The last new feature seen, was a soldier sneaking up behind a sniper. Instead of running up behind him and knifing him, instead he throws the knife at his enemy, gaining an instant kill. Check the video out below.

It is confirmed that Infinity Ward, creators of Call of Duty 4 are developing Call of Duty 6 and will be released sometime in 2009. Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith confirmed this at the Activision Blizzard Analyst Day.

“In 2009, we expect Infinity Ward to deliver another [entry of] ground-breaking quality, Call of Duty 6,”

“Infinity Ward is already at work on the next installment in the franchise.”

Infinity Ward have stated that there will be no Trophies for Call of Duty 4. Infinity Ward’s Community Manager said this:

Hey Everyone -

With the latest Playstation 3 firmware now available, I see a lot of questions regarding how it effects Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

At this time, we have no plans to patch in Trophy support for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the PS3. Much like DualShock rumble addition to the PS3, the support for these new features have come much to late for us to add it to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare due to our current production schedule.

We would have loved to have these in the game at launch if the support was available, or shortly after.

The team behind Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare are rumoured to be making a new sci-fi title.

Speaking with TalkPlayStation.com an insider said “we are currently working on a new sci-fi title, we cannot release any more information as of yet, we may or may not announce it at E3″.

So what sort of sci-fi game will this be? Most likely a first person shooter, maybe its something that will rival Halo.

Infinity Ward are famous for developing Call of Duty 4, they have no part in Call of Duty 5 as Treyarch are in control of it.

Call of Duty 4 is the third Playstation 3 game to shift 3 million units. With Motorstorm in 1st and Resistance Fall of Man in second, Infinity Ward’s shooter has finally made made it. I’m sure Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto will break the 3 million mark and will probably exceed that amount by a long shot.

The Call of Duty 4 Variety Map Pack will hit Playstation Store on the 24th of April in the US and Europe. There were previous reports suggesting that the Map Pack will be released in Europe on May the 1st, not anymore though, so the Europeans don’t have to worry no more.

The Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Variety Map Packfor PS3 will be available on the PlayStation Network on Thursday April, 24 for both the US and Europe!

Additionally, since they won’t be coming out on two different days anymore all the Double XP / Play with the Devs goodness will be on the same day. Enjoy Double XP all weekend for both continents from 12:01 AM GMT on Friday, April 25 to 11:59 PM PDT on Sunday, April 27. We are also making Friday, April, 25 a “Play with the Devs” day. The Infinity Ward team will be playing online on Friday, April 25 from 11AM to 2PM PDT and from 5 PM to 8 PM PDT.

The price of the Map Pack is $9.99, so around £4.99 in the UK.

The new Variety Map Pack for the Playstation 3 version of Call of Duty 4 will be released in North America on the 24th of April 2008 and in Europe on the 1st of May.

Along with the Variety Map Pack, there will be a Double XP weekend in North America from 12:01 AM PDT on the 25th of April 2008 to 11:59 PM PDT on 27th of April 2008.

Not only that, if your playing in North America you will be able to play the new maps against the Infinity Ward team on the 25th of April 2008 from 5 PM PDT to 8 PM PDT.

So what about the Europeans? Well if your playing in Europe, you will have a Double XP weekend that starts at 12:01 AM GMT on the 2nd of May 2008 and will end on at 11:59 PM GMT on the 4th of May 2008. Europeans can play the new maps against the Infinity Ward team on the 2nd of May from 7 PM GMT to 10 PM GMT.

Robert Bowling, Director of Communications/Community Manager of Infinity Ward, has let the Playstation industry know that the variety map pack for the PS3 version of COD4 has been sent to Sony for certification. This means that we are a step closer to it’s release.

Bowling said:

“The Variety Map Pack DLC and patch required to add the maps to the game have went to certification at Sony last night,”

“We’re shooting for a worldwide simultaneous release, so all users can expect to have it at the same general time frame when it finishes certification. We’re working to see if we can secure a firm release date to pass along to you guys now, and I’ll post that as soon as I have it.”
