Firmware 2.40 (or 2.41 for some people) was a fantastic upgrade, in fact, it’s the best firmware release we’ve had so far (apart from a few problems, so lets call it 2.41). Why firmware 2.40 bricked PS3’s
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has sent ThreeSpeech the following statement regarding firnware 2.40 bricking certain Playstation 3’s.

If your a lucky individual who successfully installed firmware 2.40 with no problems you won’t have any problems to come. There are a number of reports saying that they’ve had problems with firmware 2.4, saying that this firmware upgrade has ‘bricked’ their Playstation 3’s meaning it won’t boot up.

According to videogaming247, Playstation Network boss Eric Lempel, the firmware 2.4 update will include the Google Search Bar.
