Thanks to our friends over at TheSixthAxis, EA has announced a price for the upcoming Ultimate Team expansion that will be made available for FIFA 09 on the 19th of March.

In order to get the Ultimate Team you will need to pay £7.99, not great lot if you ask me to what seems like a rather big update.

A 5 game trial will be available so you can try it before you buy. Thats not it, a Trophy patch is due out the same day. Good times lay ahead for Fifa 09 owners.

Fifa 2009 game update
Posted on November 14th, 2008 at 7:05 PM by Ves

On the UK forum of EA Sports, an employee announced that FIFA 09 has received an update following the feedback from the user on in the community. These are improvements from this update:

  • Fixed side-stepping issue on lofted through balls
Fixing the issue where a player sidesteps when trying to control a lofted through ball instead of running straight onto it and controlling it, was a top priority for the EAC development team. We’re happy to say that the team at EAC has been able to fix this problem and it will be included in the game update.
  • Improved advantage rule: fixed goals being called back for free kicks
There was a problem in the advantage rule whereby the referee would call back a goal if it was scored when the advantage was being played. Instead the referee would give a FK or a PK to the fouled player. This issue has been resolved in the game update. Goals that are going in when a foul is committed will count when they score.
  • Improved number assigning in Manager Mode
When signing a player in Manager Mode the player now makes a more sensible decision, based on this position, on which number he would like, whereas previously he would always take the number 2.
  • Allowed up to 8 user-controlled teams in Tournament Mode
After installing the game update it will be possible to play in Tournament Mode with up to 8 user-controlled teams. This gives the option to host bigger events with your friends to compete in offline-tournaments. Have fun!
  • Removed ability to bring custom teams into Online ranked matches
Everybody has the option to transfer players in his favorite team and create his own custom dream team. This is an option we want to offer everybody to enjoy the feeling of creating own teams and play matches online or offline. When it comes to ranked competitive online matches we think only real teams should compete against each other to keep everybody’s chances even. So with the update it is no longer possible to enter a ranked match with a custom created team. You will still be able to upload your customized team online as in customized starting line-up with the existing players of that team’s roster
  • Fixed Stadium 23.Maj lag issue
We fixed a major frame rate issue in 23.Maj stadium.
  • Fixed join issue in Online Team Play Lobbies
A game hang issue occurred during search for available OTP game sections within the lobby rooms has been resolved.

Most of you will probably be glad with the advantage rule fix. And if you read the North American Store update, you noticed that they got commentary packs of non-english languages, but EU update didn’t. Well it did. After checking the store out we discovered that the EU store has also received the packs.

Fifa 09 has broke records with a successful first week of sales. The newest Fifa game outsold last year’s game by around 37.5%, this set new records. 42% of the sales were on the Xbox 360, 40% on the Playstation 3, 11% on the Playstation 2 and the remaining were shared by other platforms.

Good news for EA and the gaming industry and it holds strong through the credit crunch.

For those of you living in the UK and don’t have FIFA 09 yet you might want to wait until the weekend before you buy it. Tesco will be selling FIFA 09 at a reduced price of just £29.99. ASDA will be reducing the game to £32. Meanwhile, Blockbuster will be selling the game at £34.99 and are giving away a free football and £5 off any other game.

So yes, wait until the weekend unless you need to play it now!

Someone has got their hands on the FIFA 09 final retail build, they’ve posted some information and compared the full version to the demo. Here’s what they said.

  • The shooting is much more refined & huge improvement on the demo – BUT, the camera does zoom in now as soon as the ball crosses the line. This may not be a huge problem for most – in fact, it may not even be noticeable to some, but there was delay in the zoom on the demo, which meant you saw the ball hit the back of the net before the camera zoomed for the celebration – this has gone for the main game, and for me personally, it does take a little of the satisfaction away from scoring, which is a shame.
  • The graphics are an improvement, with better AA now, and replays are much, MUCH better, with no slow-down or stuttering, and the camera angles seem to be far better.
  • Commentary so far seems spot on, although I’ve always liked it, yet some complain. Not 100% sure if the running animation has changed, although again, I was happy with it in the demo.
  • Night matches lighting may not be to everyones taste, but it looks stunning from where I’m sitting, and has a similar hue to that of the 2004/5 champions league Fifa game, with a very slight blueish tint, that does give it a TV style feel, even though it isn’t necessarily accurate. The crowd seem to have improved since the demo, although I can’t put my finger on how.
  • There are lots of nice little touches here and there, and variations within the animation – sometimes the way players receive the ball and pass looks absolutely stunning. It’s difficult to put my finger on it, but the way the players position their bodies, and the shape of them as they recieve the ball can just look fantastic.
  • All in all, I can’t get enough of it at the moment. It’s without the doubt the best football game I’ve played, and the most ‘right’ feeling football game since PES 3 for me.
