The Far Cry 2 patch which takes the game to version 1.4 is now live. The file is around 30MB and the following additions/fixes are included.

“Single Player
Fix some random crash occurring during specific Malaria attacks
Fix health damage not following the difficulty level when switching difficulty during player’s walkthrough
Fix some camera issue when using a mortar near a rock
Reduce significantly the probability of having a corrupted save game*

Extra features
Add a “hardcore mode” that will provide a new damage model where all weapons do much more damage to increase realism.
Add the possibility to play Rank matches on a selection of user maps**”

The Far Cry 2 community have been crying out for a patch for the multiplayer aspect of the game. Why? Because players wanted to play a more realistic experience online and this new experience will be called Hardcore Mode. Furthermore, a new damage model will be applied with increased damage for all weapons.

Other additions in this patch include:-

• All weapons have been rebalanced on normal mode, and on hardcore mode.
• Enemy names will disappear after the spawning invincibility period is over (A shield is displayed above a player’s head for a few second to show that he is invincible).
• A new option will allow you to tweak spawning time (but not spawning rate).
• A new search option will be available in multiplayer to allow you to find games that are playing on hardcore mode.

No word on a release date.

Our favourite online store Play.com is at it again, this time with a Monster sale with prices starting as low as £9,99 (€13,99). Seems some stores are trying to make sure the gamers don’t notice too much of the current financial problems in the world with these prices their throwing at us. Only thing is, you’ll need to know when these days are.

At the UBS Annual Global Media Conference, Ubisoft announced that Far Cry 2 has been able to sell one million units after only 3 weeks. But their main focus for the up coming period is to sell atleast 2,5 millions units of latest edition of Prince of Persia.

Ubisoft CFO Alain Martinez believes reaching that goal will be very likely, as the franchise has done well in the past.

If it goes to four or five (million), then there is an upside factor for the company, If it goes to 1.5 million, then there is a downside factor.

Though the market is getting more and more crowded, he believes that despite the tough competition Ubisoft and Prince of Persia will come out winners.

After almost two years and three possible release periods, Home will finally be available to the public from December 11th 2008.

SCEE let know that tomorrow, everybody who has registered to the Playstation Network will be able to download Home from the Playstation Store. There was much speculation of when it would be available and in the latest interviews with people from SCE/Sony/Playstation only increased them.

We already know that Red Bull had it’s own thing coming in Home but joined by other brands like Fashion leader Diesel, furniture designers Ligne Roset, Paramount Pictures, video content providers Hexus TV and Eurogamer they are one of the first to provide us with content once the Open Beta launches.
Expect to Dress 2 kill your avatar in Diesel clothing ranging in prices from free of charge to €1.50. Or do you rather want to show of your in-door decorating skills by furnishing your apartment, Summer Cottage or any other estate with exclusive Ligne Roset furniture. Maybe even be hired by somebody else.

To take the PlayStation Home Theatre to another level, Sony teamed up with various content providers to enhance the cinematic experience. Expect to see lifestyle technology programming from Hexus TV. Gaming content from Eurogamer and exclusive film content from Paramount Pictures (Maybe Sony Pictures as well in the future).
Paramount Pictures will be using Home to promote it’s latest movies like the highly anticipated film Watchmen to PlayStation®Home residents. You will also be able to get a selection of virtual Watchmen merchandise like T-Shirts with the smiley face logo, Doomsday clocks and character statues. Expect to see these items in (begin) 2009, ahead of an exclusive Q & A event where cast and filmmakers will meet selected press and competition winners fans within the Watchmen themed environment.
So this all seems like good news, but we still wonder how much content will actually be released in Open Beta from the start. With content we mainly mean clothing and furniture. The small store update that was received last week for people who were able to get into the Extended Closed Beta was nice acording to some but still not enough.
Will we be able to play music from our hard disks in our apartment or watch a clip on the TV in you Summer Cottage home. We don’t know yet, but coming tomorrow most questions will be answered, and then the judgement over Home’s potential will really start.

Get ready and be prepared to an experience that will take your Playstation 3 console to a whole other level.

The Playstation 3 version of Far Cry is believed to run at full 1080p whereas the Xbox 360 version runs at 720p. Quaz51, the person from the Beyond3D forum who found out the native resolutions of GTA4 and Halo 3 has confirmed the native resolutions for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Far Cry 2. PS3 version of Far Cry 2 is running at 960*1080p as opposed to 1280*720p on X360.

His comments on the PS3 version:

I’m think I’m measuring 960×1080, which indicates this might be the PS3 version running at 960×1080 in 1080p mode.

Either way, both version will look identical.

For those of you buying Far Cry 2 it will require a massive 3.5GB chunk out of your Playstation 3’s hard drive. It is a mandatory installation too.

Far Cry 2 is already out in America and will be released tomorrow in Europe.

So, yesterday you got information about pre-ordering Far Cry 2, today you get information on the classes you’ll be able to play in the game.

Each class can choose a primary weapon and a side arm. You can’t just choose any they have to be appropriate. You can carry explosives such as frags or molotov cocktails. As your progress through the multiplayer side of things you will be able to unlock more powerful weapons within each class by spending blood diamonds that you earn through experience points.

There are six classes:

* Commando – “Mid-range assault class. Effective at fire-and-movement tactics.”
* Sharpshooter – “Long-range specialist. Armed with highly accurate weapons.”
* Guerrilla – “Short-range class. Specializes in close combat and ambush tactics.”
* Rebel – “Specialist in explosives and fire. Strong on offense or defense.”
* Gunner – “Heavy firepower specialist. Highly effective from static firing positions.”
* Saboteur – “Equipped with silenced weapons. Specializes in stealth tactics.”

We’re not sure is this is a worldwide thing but UK retailer HMV are offering four extra missions for those who pre-order Far Cry 2. The following missions are supposed to give players hours of extra gameplay.

The Georgian
The Georgian informant has gone into hiding at the Fuel Depot in UFLL territory, find him and discover what your predecessor learned from him about the Jackal’s location.

The Bolivian
The Bolivian informant is on the run, trying to escape the country by stealing a plane from a small airfield in APR territory. Try to get to him before your predecessor does.

Special Delivery
Your employers have more information for you about your predecessor – learn the location of his new dead drop and raid it to find information about his secret meetings.

Le Francais
A French smuggler and arms dealer who may have been providing arms to the Jackal has been tipped off, and your predecessor is trying to stop him from crossing the border. Find out what Frenchman’s price is.

The offer will indeed apply for the PS3 version as well as other platforms. If you want to play the extra missions, pre-order the game.

Far Cry 2 is set to run at 720p, however it won’t run at 60 frames per second. Multiplayer producer Richard Gaetan says:

We wish it would be 60 frames a second, but no. With the world so big – even in multiplayer the biggest maps are pretty huge – the dynamic grass that can catch on fire, the trees that can be destroyed, the vehicles in there as well, there’s so much going on that no, we’re not at 60 frames per second.

No word on how man FPS the game will do but we’re making a guess of 30.

Far Cry 2 is set to have four multiplayer modes. The games producer Louis-Pierre Pharand has confirmed this to Eurogamer.

The following modes will be in Far Cry 2.

• Deathmatch
• Team Deathmatch
• Capture the Diamond
• And a modified version of a VIP

“We decided that all persistency will occur within a match or a define series of matches,”

“That way, gamers will have a taste of all our great guns quickly. You will get upgrades within classes and it will allow you to be more tactical in your progression, depending of the type maps you play.”
