Dead Space 2 was announced not too long ago and many people are wondering what new additions it will bring. It appears that the second game will feature more action but less horror. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Visceral senior VP Nick Earl told Industry Gamers:

We’ve got two main teams; we’ve got some supporting content for Dante’s Inferno coming out, but we’ll mostly shift our attention to Dead Space 2,

The first one was well received, and we want to take advantage of that start with something that has tremendously wide appeal.

We’re more focused on the action than the horror this time. We’re more empowering to the player. We’ve got a lot of feature innovation and we feel comfortable because we have something with resonance and we have something that’s so capable.

I’ve heard some people say that Dead Space was the most “un-EA game” they had seen, and they meant it as a compliment! Funny anecdote, when [EA CEO] John [Riccitiello] in his position several years ago and was touring the studio, he said he wanted a horror game. He went away and when it came back, he helped support and finally realize that game in Dead Space.

let’s build quality and let the rest follow.

What do you think about this?

GameInformer have the first details on EA’s second entry to their Dead Space series and here’s what the magazine have to say about the title.

organic, haphazardly constructed, long-term place that’s built around the remaining shards of one of Saturn’s moon-The first planet-crack ever. Like any real city it is not all built by one person. Some stuff was built up, and some areas, corporate areas, government areas, and public areas

The second game is set 3 years after the first game.

For all those Dead Space fans out there, did you know that EA actually had a co-op mode running in for their horror title, Dead Space?

Glen Schofield, the General Manager for Visceral Games said:

We actually had co-op for about three/four months in Dead Space. In the original one, we had it running and we’re playing it and we had a little team developing it and it was actually pretty cool.

But what we realized is that we were sort of detracting from the single-player game at that point. We could use those guys who were on that team to make our game better and it was hard, you know, there was just technical challenges that were just getting in the way of making the single-player game.

How cool would co-op on Dead Space be? Maybe we could see something in Dead Space 2.

Electronic Arts Redwood Shores has confirmed a sequel to Dead Space and will be coming at some point in the future. Glen Schofield, general manager of EA’s Redwood Shores studio in San Francisco has let everyone know the news. We expected a sequel, it would be rude not to because the first game did well and we loved it.

We haven’t announced anything yet, but I don’t think you take a game that’s rated 89 and just go, ‘Well, that was a failure

And you know what, we’ll figure that out, because the hardest thing is the quality. If you figure out the quality, then at some point we’re going to figure out how to get that out there.

We guess it will be released in time for Xmas.

Dead Space looks like a long-term big winner for us…

Does this mean that Dead Space did well and that they are thinking of making this into a big franchise? Could well be!
