biops3big greedy 2K Games gets greedy, thinks of possible big Bioshock franchise

In an interview with MCV, Global President of 2K Christoph Hartmann believed that Bioshock is capable of having several sequels (Bioshock 2: Sea Of Dreams will be part prequel, part sequel). Though he promised to not “cash in” on the future franchise, we believe different.

For Bioshock, because it’s so story driven, the question obviously arises: how long can you do it without turning into The Matrix? The first Matrix was great, the second one was weird and the third one, you thought: ‘Who [making this] is on crack and who isn’t?’. “But, then again, look at Star Wars. It’s a fight between good and evil, just like Bioshock. If we spin it the right way and get the right twist of innovation, we can make six parts of it, as Star Wars did

Hartmann also tried to subtlety say he was upset on how the Need for Speed franchise was killed. Though he didn’t name the company or name specifically you read the next quote and say if were wrong.

But we have to be careful not to cash in. I won’t name the company, but there was a great racing game years ago. They brought it back year-on-year. If you look at the scores, it’s hard to believe what they’ve done to it. It’s upsetting, actually.

Do we truly need a Bioshock franchise or are we content with 2-3 sequels and then something new?

monstersale play Holiday bonanza in Europe

Our favourite online store Play.com is at it again, this time with a Monster sale with prices starting as low as £9,99 (€13,99). Seems some stores are trying to make sure the gamers don’t notice too much of the current financial problems in the world with these prices their throwing at us. Only thing is, you’ll need to know when these days are.

The games that caught our eyes were:

    Prince of Persia (£17.99)
    Midnight Club: Los Angeles (£17.99)
    Far Cry 2 (£17.99)
    Bioshock (£17.99)
    LittleBigPlanet £24.99
    MotorStorm: Pacific Rift £29.99
    Fallout 3: Collector’s Edition £24.99

Since I already gave myself LittleBigPlanet and Pacific Rift as christmas gift, I’ll be looking which ones will start off my New Year. Fallout 3 is already in my basket.

From time to time we’ll post some interesting sales of games or accessories to help ease the pain in current times

The demo of BioShock that was released on the Playstation Network a few weeks ago was a slight letdown. Playstation 3 fans were annoyed that they were to get a ‘bogged’ down version of the game. This is what the demo looked like.

bioshock 30 505x284 IGN gives 9.4 for the PS3 version of BioShock

IGN has reviewed BioShock on the Playstation 3, most likely the final build of the game. When the demo came out a couple of weeks ago a lot of waiters like us were left upset because of the quality of the graphics.

According to the IGN review these seem to have been fixed.

If you never experienced the halls of Rapture and have been waiting for its appearance on the PS3, there really is no discussion to be had. Go out and get your hands on BioShock — you will thoroughly enjoy exploring the incredible story and the excellent action that the game is known for. However, if you’ve played the game before, or are expecting this to be the definitive version, that’s not fully found here. Sure, the full trophy support and Survivor mode are great, and the Challenge Rooms could add a ton to the replayability (whenever it’s implemented). However, old glitches that should’ve been fixed in the PS3 development hold this version back from being completely realized.

    Graphics
A mix of old and new textures, combined with old glitches and slowdown that should’ve been fixed in a year’s worth of extra development holds this game back slightly.

Doesnt really mention anything bad about the quality of the graphics. Read the full review.

So, BioShock got slated after 2KGames released a demo for the game a couple of weeks ago. It looks like 2K are back hard at work trying to make the PS3 version the better version. Jake Etgeton a 2K Marin programmer reveals that the PS3 version of BioShock will feature new interactive load screens and graphical improvements.

There are improvements, such as interactive load screens which takes advantage of the increased space on the Blu-ray disc,

The downloadable Challenge Rooms also offer a slew of new graphical and gameplay content, albeit outside of the fictional universe.

Etgeton reveals that the game will install to the PS3’s hard drive taking up 5GB and will only take 10 minutes.

BioShock PS3 uses a standard one-time 5 GB install. It only takes 10 minutes, and there’s even a fancy movie accompanied by Bing Crosby’s ‘You’re Getting to Be a Habit with Me’ to help pass the time if you’re not off making a tasty, preparatory sandwich.

I guess we will have to wait for the reviews to roll in. Our guess is that the graphics will be slightly improved over the demo counter part.
