When it first came out they sold it for almost $200 less than what it cost to make it. This means that they don't have any money to buy exclusive rights from companies. So instead of spending money to do that, they're counting on new games created by 1st and 2nd party devolpers to work just as well. And that was a mistake... As it is/ was with Tekken 6, VF5, Assassins Creed, GTA4 etc... I reckon Square-Enix think this is a wise move for them (particularly now with Japan in recession). What irks me about this is that Sony seem to think this is not a loss for them. Eg/ they did not even attempt to get FFXVIII (or any other exclusive it has lost) as a timed exclusive. B/c at the end of the day there is little reason for many people to buy the more expensive PS3 if all these big franchises go multiplatform. Another question that needs to be raised is why is it that Microsoft have not lost any of its exclusives to Sony? Why is that Sony? I Sure it was always about finances.
