With a statement going out by the Sony PR department on the PlayStation Portable and “competitive Landscape”, SCEA director of hardware marketing John Koller had the following to say
If Nintendo is really committed to reaching a broader, more diverse audience of gamers beyond the “kids” market that they’ve always engaged, there isn’t much new with the DSi to support that. Significant gamer demographic groups are being ignored, and there continues to be limited opportunities for games from external publishers to do well on the DSi. Compare that with the PSP platform, where we have many blockbuster franchises from our publishing partners launching this year, representing a wide variety of genres and targeting diverse demographics. Games such as Rock Band Unplugged from MTV Games, Assassin’s Creed from Ubisoft, Dissidia Final Fantasy from Square Enix, and Hannah Montana from Disney demonstrate the commitment that publishers have to the PSP. From our own first-party studios, we’re launching unique versions of LittleBigPlanet and MotorStorm, and we’re also planning a steady stream of downloadable games — both new titles and PSone classics — to add to the content that PSP owners can already purchase wirelessly through PlayStation Store
Sony is doing their best to keep the PSP platform alive, and it’s working with the recent success of Resistence: Retribution, SCE might have found a way to tackle that problem, just make the games yourself (duh).

I bought my mum a DSi for her birthday, and having played around with it for a bit while setting up her internet access, I absolutely loved it. So much so that I desperately wanted one for myself.
So I looked through the games… every title that GAME stock, in fact. And I could find a grand total of 6 titles that I may have been interested in. I even borrowed a stack of games off my cousin’s family (who all have DS’s) to test them out.
What a disappointment!
As I’ve said elsewhere, if the PSP is starved of quality games, the DS is positively anorexic. It has a huge range of games, but there’s very little variety. Unless you’re into RPGs, TBS, Pokemon or umpteen Mario games, there’s next to nothing. And what else there is, is very poor in comparison to PSP games.
I eventually used the £75 DS Lite trade-in rebate game were offering to buy a new PSP-3000 with Resistance Retribution.
The DS is a lovely little system, but chronically under-powered for games. The new DSi camera and sound features are fun for about half an hour, but in the end it comes down to games, and I’m sorry, but the PSP is vastly superior.
