Speaking with Eurogamer.net Ted Price the CEO and President of Insomniac Games he got asked a question on what resolution and frames per second their upcoming first person shooter, Resistanc 2 will run at/in. He responded with that the game will run in 720p at 30 frames per second. Just so you know here is the full question and answer.
“ps3owner asks: What is the resolution and the framerate of the game?
Ted Price: 720p, 30fps.”
At least we now know that Resistance 2 will be running in a HD resolution.

YES! thanks for this news. Thank you!
There’s an onslaught of sub-HD games coming out this generation, one of which will undoubtedly be Gears 2
You are right harlem, just like a few game’s for the ps3 including the big one GTA4. The first gears ran at 720p so i don’t think pt 2 will run any lower, Nice try though son.
I take it that they have NOT listened to complaints from the first version that the game needs to also support 1080i. I hope they didn’t blow these fans off. If they did, I will NEVER buy another game from this developer. Seriously.
Utalk, you are wrong. It is likely that Gears 2 will run at sub-HD because it uses the Unreal Engine “3.5″, which improves the graphics quality. The first Gears was very good and I think it was pushing the 360 a lot. This one will have improved graphics, and in turn, would probably have lower FPS/lower resolution.
Oh yeah, and don’t tell me that Gears came out a year after launch so it was pushing the 360. The 360’s CPU is basically the same as a standard triple-core CPU. Same architecture and everything. It’s not hard to optimize for it when devs already know to code for PCs.
Utalk, the first Gears ran at 1080i, which equals 540p
@pixelsword
1080i = 1080i, not 540p
Unless you were saying the data rate is equivalent to 540p @ *60fps*. 1080i runs at 60fps which helps with smoothness and is arguably more than 720p @ 30fps. BTW, 540p is not even a valid HD resolution.
@Andrew
Just because they increased the graphic quality does not mean they did not optimize performance accordingly. They can always improve the graphics quality of the engine, heck they could make it semi-realistic if they wanted to totally kill performance, but they don’t! Secondly the graphic quality can be tuned to the system.
*sigh*

this is pretty cool considering past games like Halo 1.3 ran at 200i and Haze ran at 420p..
Monkeynator, you’re missing the points in several ways:
–540p isn’t HD, that was one of my points Halo 3 wasn’t in HD. All because it has a ‘p’ in back of it, that doesn’t mean it’s HD; mostly everyone says 720p looks better than 1080i for a reason.
–1080i may be smoother in some instances, but graphically inferior to 720p; it depends on whether you want smoothness or graphical quality. Now the question remains: given that both Insomniac and Bungie (at the time) were both first party developers, why couldn’t Bungie at least put out 720p graphics on the 360… especially if the 360 is easier to program for.
Good enough.
