Who said Grand Theft Auto IV would sell more on the Xbox 360? Ok ok, maybe it did but Take-Two Interactive has revealed that the Playstation 3 has earned the company more money.

So how much did the console’s earn Take-Two? The PS3 earned the company $347.0 million, the 360 made them $281.5 million and lastly, the Wii earned them $112.0 million. What i don’t get is the PS3 and 360 sales were driven by Grand Theft Auto IV.

Even though the 360 may have sold more copies of GTA IV, the PS3 still earnt them more money? Must be something to do with currency conversions, GTA IV must have sold more on PS3 in Europe than North America.

Hi there, here in Portugal GTAIV for PS3 is at 74,90€ converted to dollars it means $104.6 Dollars…
I don’t know how much the game cost in North America, but certainly it isn’t at that humongous price.

    ;)

Hmm… I hope they remember which side their bread is buttered next time someone waves a few extra dollars under their nose for exclusive content deals.

  • Methanous says:

well, untill they deal with the hacked copies of GTAIV i believe it will stay this way, the company is losing money from hackers, till now ps3 is not hacked, imo this is a critical reason

Assuming this is just based on a single year, how about the fact that there was one extra game launched for the PS3 than the 360 in 2008….Bioshock. My guess is that if you went and asked the same question last year, Take Two would say that the 360 earned them more.

    • Paranoimia says:

I don’t think you can count Bioshock sales. This report covers finances up to the end of October; Bioshock PS3 was only released 17th October in Europe, and 21st October in the US. Its impact wouldn’t have been that great on these figures.

  • Lucas says:

well here in Belgium (almost all) new games are sold at 65€ (with current exchange rate) that would be $90 Dollars.
Can someone say how much a new game usualy costs in the USA?

  • Omegaxs! says:

new games cost $60 in the usa

  • Lucas says:

thats it $60? thats like 43€ and that is the price for a new PSP/DS game.
Man we realy are being ripped off in Europe :(

  • Gabriel says:

Arent thee numbers for the lat quarter only, where Bioshock P3 was released ?

    • Paranoimia says:

The source article says it’s for the fiscal year ending 31st October 2008. Bioshock PS3 was only released 17th October in Europe, and 21st October in the US, so probably has little if any bearing on the figures.

hey Paranoimia if it was sony dollars you wouldn’t be complaining hypocrite.
You know those sony dollars on a game like… l.a. noire and the two exclusives sony paid for.

Oh I know sony don’t pay for exclusives but what do you call it when they fund a game and part of the contract is two exclusives?

quit your crying and come back when the point you’re trying to make isn’t one sided and selective.

They do know which side their bread is buttered.
Profit. You have the ridiculous nonsensical view that they owe sony something.
GTA was a pc exlusive first, forget that?
by your poor logic they should be showing the pc lot all the love and leaving everyone else alone.

Of course you forgot that. You own a ps3 which means your knowledge of gaming goes as far back as ps2 (gta was on dreamcast before the ps2) because your 12.

    • Paranoimia says:

My view isn’t ridiculous, nonsensical, selective or one-sided – though it seems your interpretation is.

I’m not speaking from a “PS3 vs 360″ standpoint, nor did I suggest that they owe Sony anything. Similarly, at no point did I say that content should be exclusive to Sony/PS3, or that Sony didn’t pay for exclusives. I simply said that they (Rockstar/Take-Two) should remember this next time they’re offered money for exclusive content, whoever the offer is from. This goes for all developers, and applies to all platforms. I don’t agree with buying exclusives, but if one company does it, so must the others – otherwise, one company potentially ends up with everything.

Clearly Rockstar/Take-Two are interested in profit – all businesses are. But they now know that financially, any kind of exclusivity deal is NOT in their best interest, regardless of platform.

It would be logical to assume that since the PS3 generated more sales/profit, the extra content would also sell very well for PS3, making them a considerable sum. Quite possibly more than the $50 million they were paid for exclusivity.

More importantly, if the DLC sales on 360 don’t exceed $70 million, they’ll have to pay back some of that cash advance.

Given the delays, the DLC will be released almost a year after the original game. There’s also the fact that an awful lot of gamers (on both formats) found GTA IV to be fairly lacking, and have already sold it on or traded it in. Both factors _could_ mean that DLC sales are adversely affected. If that should be the case and they have to return some cash, will the deal have been worth it, when they could have made that much and more by releasing the content for all platforms? I’m guessing probably not.

For the record, my gaming knowledge goes back a very long way. My previous systems: Acetronic MPU 1000, Commodore VIC-20, Commodore 64, Commodore Amiga A500, Commodore Amiga A500 Plus, Sega Game Gear, Nintendo Gameboy, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Microsoft Xbox, Nintendo Gamecube. And PC, of course. So any ideas you had about labelling me a Sony fanboy are best forgotten.

Oh, and if you want to try and insult people regarding their age and knowledge, you may want to take a little more care over your posts. Judging by spelling, punctuation and capitalisation, ‘your’ (sic) considerably younger than 12. But if you feel you can manage a proper, reasonable discussion without resorting to petty insults, go ahead…
