PS3 in-game YouTube support possible

IGN reported that a video upload feature that is in the latest 2.35 firmware update to Sony’s Japan only Mainichi Issyo. What this feature does is allows gamers to record a video of their gameplay moments and save the clips to the hard drive or have them upload directly to YouTube.

Mainichi Issyo is the only PS3 title to have this feature but Sony plans to expand YouTube compatibility. The YouTube compatibility seems to be a secret update that no one knew about that was included into the latest firmware update.

“The functionality was added to the PS3 operating system via Version 2.35 of the firmware, which became available to PS3 owners today.”

This doesn’t mean you can go into any game and start recording and then upload the clips to YouTube. The game must support this feature and Mainichi Issyo is the only title to support this.

“It’s possible that similar functionality will be added to other games as well.”

The specifications of the video are:

Resolution: 320×240
Frames: 30 frames per second
Formate: MPEG-4
Bit-rate: 768kbps
Sound: 64kbps in AAC format
Length: 10 minutes

Once you have finished recording you are given a choice to saving the clips to the hard drive or uploading them to YouTube. If you choose to upload to YouTube you will be prompted for your YouTube username and password and the upload process will begin with a progress bar.
