Playstation 3 games to use DIVX for video encoding
DivX have announced that they have given game developers the ability to use DivX video encoding for the Playstation 3. This will enable developers to use high quality video for Playstation 3 games.
The CEO of DivX, Kevin Hell said:
“We are excited to work with Sony Computer Entertainment to offer DivX video encoding to PS3 game developers,”
“PS3 users can already use their PS3s to watch their own DivX videos, and now they’ll also be able to enjoy the quality of DivX in the games.”
So what does using DivX in games mean? It means that developers can take advantage of the compression technology while still able to maintain high quality videos. The Playstation 3 is the first console to ever to be able to playback DivX video.
