The PS3 keypad in real hands

Keeping an eye on that Playstation 3 Keypad? Lets take a look at what it looks like when someone is actually holding it.

According to MTV:

The PS3 version, however, connects above the sticks. I’m sure I’m not the only PS3 owner who has been wondering if that would force people to make an uncomfortable stretch.

At a meeting I had with Sony executives today in Manhattan, I saw a PS3 controller with the keypad attached. I asked to pick it up, to try it and to snap photos.

What you see above is the controller in my (very Italian) hands.

I snapped a few more photos of the device in my hands and those of Jack Buser, lead developer of the PS3’s upcoming Home service. Jack is a bigger guy, with bigger hands. He’s over six feet tall. I’m 5′6″.

This is what it looked like when we started reaching for buttons to type on:

First, I asked Buser, who has used the add-on a lot and says he can blaze through typing with it, to reach for the hardest-to-reach keys

Not suitable for small hands?

Playstation 3 sales are better than expected

The Playstation 3 and Playstation Portable are selling faster than they are expected to and are on target to meet full-year sales targets even if the current economic crisis hurts holiday demand according to Sony themselves.

Jack Tretton, Chief Executive of Sony Computer Entertainment of America says the console is driven by solid demand by video games, blu-ray players and more.

“We are in good shape for that number worldwide,”

“We are tracking at 100 percent up over last year … about 30 percent ahead of where we should be. So sales could slow down and we will still hit our number.”

Tretton hopes the PS3 can reach a previously announced target of 10 million units by the end of the year, in March 2009.

Home Not Coming in October

TedTheDog, the Home Community Manager has corrected himself saying that Home 1.0 will be available when 2.50 releases. He says that it is not the case, and the Open Beta will release later this year.

It was certainly my post that was cut and paste (from the US private forum) but the context was missing.

2.5 is bringing some fixes that Home needs (they were asking about a particular bug) and Open beta will be later this year after 2.5 is released. Sorry about that, I should know better than to say anything that could be misconstrued like that on such an important subject.

Clearer wording needed Ted!
