Kaz Hirai, the Playstation president, during Sony’s mid-term strategy meeting looked at Metal Gear Solid 4 as an example of what the Playstation 3 can offer. Hirai mentioned that MGS4 shipped 3 million units worldwide in the first two weeks of going on sale.
Kaz Hirai said:
“the first title to fully utilize the capacity of dual layer Blu-ray disc…. Metal Gear Solid 4has created a world of gaming entertainment that can only be realized by PS3.”
Hirai said that MGS4 helped shift 8 times more units:
“In the first week of the release of Metal Gear Solid 4, sales of PS3 in the Japanese market grew significantly, [an] eight times increase as compared to the week before, proving that Metal Gear Solid 4 is a platform driver for PS3.”
Not bad. Metal Gear Solid 4 is the biggest exclusive game to make big impact and there are more to come towards the end of the year.
