Listen to the banned LittleBigPlanet song
Posted on October 20th, 2008 at 9:42 AM by Talk Playstation

Ok, so most of you if not all of you know that LittleBigPlanet has been delayed because the muslim community wasn’t happy about one of the games background music.
So what was the song in question? After doing some research it seems to be called ‘Tapha Niang’. Head over to Toumani Diabate’s MySpace page and listen to Tapha Niang.
Click here for the page. Doesnt sound that bad does it?

So the obvious question is… why aren’t ‘offended Muslims’ also e-mailing MySpace demanding that the song be removed from there?
It’s a family-oriented site in the same way that LBP is a family-oriented game, and I’m sure MySpace has more users than there are PS3 owners.
well the thing is paranoimia: im muslim but in our countries we dont use MySpace and its not popular in here and all of the people i know dont have a profile(we use the Facebook)
and second: Little Big Planet is the kind of game that every child could be playing so its not a nice thing when you put something sacred like quran with music inthe game.
i respect the company for their decision otherwise i (for example wont buy the game).
Fair enough on the MySpace issue, but what I honestly don’t understand is, why complain now, and to Sony? If it is truly that offensive, why were complaints not made 2 years ago when the track was released, and to the artist and his record label?
Then the track may not have been available to be included in a game years later – or at least, its ‘offensive’ content would have been known, prohibiting its inclusion in the game.
With all due respect, I genuinely find it hard to believe that it’s taken 1+ billion Muslim people 2 years to discover that a Grammy award winning Muslim artist has released a track containing offensive lyrics.

“From the brief research we’ve done (um … Wikipedia), we have yet to find evidence to suggest “Tapha Niang” (or any Toumani Diabaté production for that matter) has been criticized for possible religious offenses prior to today’s development.”
