The Playstation 3 has more power than you think! According to the producer of Killzone 2 the PS3 is a lot more futureproof.
The machine itself is a lot more futureproof, there’s a lot more to it – the whole idea of SPUs and the cell processor, I think they’re a lot more enticing, because there’s just that much more power under the hood that people want to explore – I think the techheads will look at the specs and say, well, let’s try and unlock all of that power

The hardware has longevity over the 360.
Well it has the hardware right now… but again, price is too high (current price) for most people to want to purchase it. Plus, it won’t have the longevity. I give it a 9/10 chance that the next system won’t have nearly the emphasis on physical media, but digitially distributed media. You already see it with warhawk, or other similar games.

I’m a Playstation fan but I have to admit, the PS3 is obviously slightly less powerful than the 360. This has been proven time and time again. Why are we even still talking about it ? Anyway, looking forward to Killzone 2 !

okay what you said makes no sense. First off the cell processor in a PS3 is a stripped down cell processor, and basically, it isn’t even that hard to find a computer processor that can trump it performance wise(put the PS3 cell vs an Intel Q6600 and see what happens). Also, I know the cell can handle graphics, but since when could a cpu, even the supposedly all-knowing and all-powerful cell processor, become more useful to game making then a powerful gpu and fast ram. And I would like to point out that the gpu in the xbox 360 is FAR more powerful than the one on the PS3. That is why the PS3 has such poor lighting and the textures are usually worse than on 360(also the 360 has more Ram available for video processing than the PS3, about twice as much). So all in all the PS3 isn’t as powerful as the xbox 360 and if it is more powerful, then it is marginally faster(for games I mean. Don’t try that crap about how the PS3 is a super computer because I am talking strictly games rite now). Also, a 10 year lifespan is laughable for the PS3. The next gen Xbox and Wii systems will be much more powerful than the PS3 and are coming within the next 2-3 years.

ps3 is more powerful you dont know what ur on about psfan. the reason you may think that is due to developers being so impatien, releasing games fast to make money on them rather than really spending time on making it best they can. who cares about release dates anyway if the game is just gonna be poor quality when it comes out. they’re wasting their time and peoples money on making games that you’ll get rid of in 1 week after you complete it and get bored. thankfully games such as MGS4 put those games in their place (the bargain bins) and the sooner developers realise the potential of the ps3 and start putting it to use the sooner we can stert getting some true next gen games worth paying for! xbox360 is good for 2 things, a childs booster seat and holding the door open when its hot.

The fact of the matter is, on paper, PS3 is far superior technically then any other console/platform out there. But in reality, and in ‘practice’ it is still not too ahead of the 360 technically speaking.
Obviously I am talking about 3rd party games because you could easily compare any first party PS3 title to any first party 360 title and majority of them would be better looking on PS3 (Uncharted, KZ2 etc).
But when talking about normal devs creating games on multiple platforms, PS3 is first of all harder to get running then it is on 360. An example is with CoD4, as they had to do more work and put more experienced coders on the PS3, to get it and 360 equal on the same page.
This is of course changing gradually with experience, as in 07 most multiplatform games would look slightly better on 360, in 08 majority of multiplatform games look pretty even, and I think in 09 we will start seeing the same thing that happened in 07 but the opposite, where many multiplatform titles will have a slight edge on the PS3, and this will only grow as time goes on and experience with the hardware grows.

The PS3 wont ever be able to put more than 256 megs of information on the screen at a given moment.
Sony has built a great device, it’s reliable, Blu-ray is a great feature and they have some great exclusive games.
There’s room in the market for all 3 consoles and each has it’s own set of pro’s and con’s but to say the PS3 can push better visuals than the 360 during actual gameplay is absurd.
I really like the PS3 but I do know where to draw the line.

Apparently you don’t know what your talking about. The PS3 will push better quality games as time passes. We’ve seen it happen during the First PlayStation, and again during the PlayStation 2. It’ll only take time for the PlayStation 3 for it to get there.
I want to see you try and try programming and designing on the PS3, let’s see how far you get.
PS3 has already proven so, example Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance 2, etc.
The only developers that are going to bring the full power of the PlayStation 3 are Sony themselves. Costs are higher than it was during the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 era. Visually they will look equal for multi plat games, depending on which one was designed first and how much the developer does on each console.
When the Xbox 360 released back in 2005, does the games look as pretty as it does now in 2008? I think not, developers are slowly making games better as time passes.
There is room for all the consoles out there, but this fanboy war is just complete idiocy. Just let me choose what console I want to play on and leave me be.
The PlayStation 3 has 256 MB of XDR main memory and 256 MB of GDDR3 video memory for the RSX.Its nVidia based GPU is also capable of accessing the main system memory which is comprised of XDR DRAM designed by Rambus. This memory uses internal terminators, enabling it to better handle certain graphics demands. To improve bandwidth, GDDR3 memory transfers 4 bits of data per pin in 2 clock cycles. Please know what your talking about before you post.

psfan, You are not a ps fan. You are probably an Xbox fan posing as a PS fan so that people take you seriously. If you were a Playstation fan you probably would have seen that the PS3 exclusives look far better than the xbox exclusives in general. You would have also seen that on paper the PS3 is far more powerful. I’m not quite sure what you are doing here, but you are misleading people based upon your on misinformed opinion.
BTW, they are both good systems. I’m just stating some facts so that people are not misled. Do some research at unbiased sites and you will find that i tell the truth

wow, well that is a very fanboyish comment if I’ve heard one. TO say the 360 is a joke, but ps3 “serious gaming machine” is a little ridiculous. The ps3 has been plagued with issues as well (a certain firmware update). While not as widespread as the 360, it certainly has had its issues. And should the whole topic of games even be brought up, when currently, the 360 is winning?
You guys take this crap too seriously. The Cell is definitely more powerful than the 360 CPU but the GPU they use in the PS3 is last gen. The Cell has 7 cores each one comprised of certain number of threads. Each thread can have code programmed onto it. The games don’t look better on the PS3 because of the GPU, they look better because devs are starting to figure out how to program for each core (Sony is forcing them to do this which will in turn add to the development time on a game). This is a good thing. With devs learning how to program for the Cell they’ll be able to exploit the 360’s cpu (3 cores). In the end, the 360 has the more efficient operating system (using only 6% of RAM while the PS3’s uses 30%) has a more available RAM (512mb rather than 256mb+256mb that Sony uses) and a more powerful GPU. The only thing edge the PS3 has over the 360 is blu-ray, bigger HDD and the CELL. Before you start labeling me as a 360 fanboy I don’t own either console. Grow up and read the facts. Neither is better than the other and both offer something to their user base. Both are great systems, with great games.
I DO own both systems and I have to say there is 1 major factor that anyone should consider before purchasing either: Reliability.
Ive owned 1 ps3 and 4 xbox 360’s. Both do have great games though.

I’m used to the controller, I enjoy Blu-ray movies and gaming however when I see the games I own for my PS3 running better on the 360, I must concede. It’s not like the difference’s are drastic but they are noticeable.
Sure developers are going to become more proficient with the PS3 but at the same time they are getting better with the 360.
Also, when I see how seamless Xbox Live is compared to what PSN is like I have to admit I would pay for that.
I dont regret my purchase however, I’m not willing to give up the Blu-ray player but if I were doing more gaming I think I’d have to get a 360.
seriously, i understand that crossplatform games may look slightly better on xbox, but I dont understand how you can even argue that the xbox is more powerful. I hear this so often from xbox users, but its simply not true. As an owner of all platforms, i prefer my xbox 360 for the variety of games, but i would never even try to argue what you are attempting, as its simply wrong

Seriously, what makes XBL more “seamless” than PSN? I only own a PS3 but have owned a 360. It’s not a bad machine but I didn’t see what all the fuss is about. From my experience about the only thing you can do on XBL that you can’t do on PSN is cross-game invites or join a friend already in a game. So what. Playing on-line is just as easy on both machines.
There are features that XBL has over PSN, and the same goes true for PSN has features over XBL. I don’t see why you would want to pay for Xbox Live, since basically the only thing it is used for is getting content before silver members, and playing multiplayer, I don’t see anything spectacular on XBL over PSN. But I already pay for XBL, so blah I really don’t care. As long as I enjoy my experience I’m cool with what I do.
killzone 2 is going to be ok they have to get pass cod4 in order to be great but i do not think they will. they will fall short in terms of the gameplay and other thing and ps3 and the 360 are equal and wii on a other level before u guy talk shit i own all 3 ps3/360/wii…..

You dont control anything in the game, you just push a specific button at critical times during FMV sequences .. lame !

That is BS. And don’t give me that XDR crap. Regular GDDR Ram is better for games than that XDR crap. And with 256 MB of GDDR Ram on the PS3(I know it is GDDR3), it wont be a suprise if your Killzone 2 winds up having low-res textures just like MGS4(note I didnt say bad graphics, I said bad textures). SO to tell you the truth, the PS3 is probably using about 60-80 percent of its graphics capabilities on Killzone 2(note I said graphics capabilities not power. If we were talking about RAW power, then pretty much anyone with a dedicated graphics card on their PC wins the power award without much problem). Saying that they have only reached 45% of the PS3’s potential is very misleading. While the PS3 may have that much more power, rendering wise, it is nowhere near that level of power usage. And if you want to talk about potential, the Gears of War producers withdrew their comment about almost maxing out the 360’s graphics power. The 360’s graphics power wasn’t even close to being maxed out because of new optimization techniques and revisionments and refinings of the Unreal Engine 3. Thats exactly why I didn’t buy a PS3, all these sony supported devs talk about stuff so that in a way they are true, yet they are still deceiving you. Maybe if these devs were less bull crappy with their statements, I would buy a PS3.

although i mostly dont agree with what you say ive got to agree ps3 graphics are already super sexy without even getting into killzone 2. They say it doesnt run at 45% but can games honestly get twice as powerful as that let alone more than twice. Im guessing killzone 2 will be like 60% of the best game to be released. Im kind of doubting any game will use 100% since it would take forever and an incredible amount of skill and planning. Also killzone 2 probably is using arounding 50% because honestly that game looks more realistic than my life lol

i wonder if killzone 3 will be out for ps3 or ps4? Anyway things are changing i must say. Xbox had a great 2007(their best year by far) but 2008 and 2009 are looking better on the ps3 side… ps3 has more and better exlusives this year(MGS4 HELLO that game is the best thing out for all three this gen consoles by far) and 2009…. honestly… KZ2, white knight chron(lol),new ratchet woo, heavy rain, uncharted 2 please?, god of war 3 and maybeee if were lucky the full fledged GT5(kind of doubting it). Whereas xboxs main lineup is essentially fable 2 and gears 2(looking way too much like the first for my liking but good for the fan or as an entry game) for this whole year and i havent heard anything about xbox in 2009. Theres that alan wake game thats supposed to be up there with heavy rain but it hasnt been mentioned. I think youd have to be pretty ignorant to not admit ps3 has a pretty bright future.
just because you haven’t heard about what is happening on the 360’s side of things, doesn’t mean that nothing is happening. True, 08 is a GREAT year for both sides.But, Microsoft has a lot of games forthcoming that they just haven’t told anyone about. Their strategy has always been that way. Hit you with a massive amount of great games, then make you wonder if the console is dying, then hit you with another massive amount of great games.

hav u seen how BADASS the main character from Final Fantasy Versus 13 looks in CGI? his hair, his face, an average amount of muscle. Well i saw sum screenshots of him standing in actual game play and he looks like a fukin ANOREXIC EMO.
I completely understand that gameplay isnt supposed 2 look as gud as CGI, but they need 2 @least make him look like the SAME PERSON

Killzone 2= Low textures and great animations, gameplay is like COD3.
MGS4= This is what gets me, it looks just like Assassin’s Creed. No different at all. It’s only 5 hours long, Gameplay is dull. Best thing is the story behind it.
Resistence 2= Ummm… Low textures and cannot touch Gears Of War2.
Uncharted= Great looking game, decent fun game, but in no way comes even close to being as fun or as great as Gears Of War 1.
Alan Wake vs. Heavy Rain
Wake= You can actually play it.
Rain= You hit a button on time.

im not sure who said it earlier, but he made a gud point that i complately 4got 2 mention in my 1st post. the power of the games looks at multiple things: graphics, gameplay, motion, active environments,amount of content(how big the world is and how much objects r in the game), and how many different things the characters can do

I bought my 360 for a couple reasons. Yes I do have a 360, but I knew I was going to get the PlayStation 3 on Day One, guess what I did. The reason I bought the 360 was to hold me over until the PS3 came out, and for Dead Rising/Mass Effect.
Valve mentioned that they are into consideration on making Left 4 Dead on the PS3, but if they do they won’t start until after the PC/360 versions are done.
Like Anthony said Microsoft hasn’t brought any new innovation to the table.
Who cares what system is better. Its not just the system. Its the people who design them. If you have a system with all the power in the world and no good developers for it than its not going to be good. Just shut the hell up. No one wants to hear what system you like. Just be happy you have the luxiary of being able to do the things you can with the systems of today.

by the way before you start saying i dont know what im talking about i own all 3 consoles. xbox360 elite, ps3, and the wii. i compaired them on my samsung 64″ lcd rear projection hdtv, and the ps3 proves to be the best graphics and online wise. the xbox360 does have a better online store setup, but ps3 stays lag free while xbox360 lags like shit. here is my xbl gamertag and my ps acount name if you want to know. switchblade129 is for ps3. switch blade129 for xbox360. no space for ps3

Late, I know.
Firstly, the 360 has 512MB of RAM in TOTAL. The ps3 has 256 for the System, and 256 for the Video. The system can access all 256MB from the video, effectively making 512MB for system resources.
Secondly, I play Crysis on Very High at 1280×1024, and not once has my video card used more than 256MB, in fact, it has only ever reached 248. The textures are streamed in and out of the SYSTEM RAM.
Therefor, a regular game being run at 720p would use up (I’m assuming) aprox. 128 – 200MB, leaving a good 700 something MB for the system, allowing fairly hi-res textures to be used. It’s all a matter of how you use the resources.
I personally can’t wait for Killzone 2, and by pure preference, I think it looks better than Crysis (the later has a dull art style and terrible looking vegetation on stock settings. Though the interiors are nice, the game doesn’t revolve around them at all, making it’s indoor graphical power useless.)
