In-Game XMB not so complete?
It seems that the long awaited in-game cross media bar isn’t as complete as users hoped. According to a member on the Gamefaqs forums who claims to work for Sony said that it won’t be complete XMB access. He did however say that you can play music (which confirms custom sound tracks for your games) and send messages to friends.
The only other option that this GameFAQS user could do is add a bluetooth device. Everything else he tried asked him to quit the game first before accessing restricted menu’s.
“It won’t be complete XMB access. You can for the most part play music and send messages, the only other option I’ve actually found that worked with the current build that was out was that you could add a bluetooth device. Every other option asked you to quit the game before being able to do anything else.”
Likewise, this can lifted in future firmware updates, allowing more access as time goes by.

Well thats pathetic coming from Sony Computer Entertainment Of America and SCEE SCEJ.Can you say Slackers or Mutter fickers!! look it up..I’m very angry at Phony Entertainment Of America and the rest of the world delays delays! Where the heck is HOME or should I say HOMO LAMO!..2008 and they still can’t give us what we’ve been asking for. For 2 years! sad that Sony only cares about one thing and thats your Wallet bastards!
Truthfully, in game messaging along with custom soundtracks were all I cared about anyway. I care nothing about accessing any other part of the media bar during a game. I’m sure Sony will continue to add further access as time goes by but for now, this is all I need.
Hey Snake-eyes, I find it ironic that you say Sony only cares about your wallet when their online service is completely free. That’s something that all you whiners and complainers need to keep in mind. Sure it has taken Sony much longer to offer the same services that Microsoft offers through Live. However 1.) You pay for that service and 2.) Live has been around much longer than PSN. Just excercise some patients. PSN is getting better and better with each update. I’ll bet by this time next year, no one will even remember what they were griping about.
Honestly I don’t believe it. Why would a Sony employee release information to GameFAQs and not an official thing.
It is obviously fake and I don’t understand how the fine people from TalkPlaystation.com could believe it and put it on their site.
Hey, as long as I have access to music, talking with friends, and being able to change accessories, I’m fine w/ that. I think I’ve been able to access photos while on the Web browser, so I think we might be able to do that.
I have a feeling we’ll be seeing this update (2.4) within a month.
[...] there we have it. We’ve mentioned before that eventually you can probably access all aspects of the XMB through future firmware [...]
