Heavy Rain will be dedicated to singleplayer only; there will be no online modes. President and CEO of Quantic Dream, David Cage has been speaking to 1UP and basically said that the game may feature online features but there will be no online play. Cage also revealed that the trophy system will be incorporated into the game.

1UP: In a recent interview with Develop magazine, Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida said, “One focus that has been, and will be, key is how we use the online technology and PlayStation Network to involve more consumers in participating…. That’s the major common theme that we are trying to enforce with all our projects.” Might we see any online features in Heavy Rain?

DC: Heavy Rain’s an experience about interactive narrative and emotion, and we really wanted to focus on making these core elements right. The game will support the Trophy system and may offer some kind of extra content online, but Heavy Rain is a single-player experience.

Expect an enjoyable singleplayer experience from Heavy Rain.

Finally.. Since the microsoft infection all reviewers had take de multiplayer like a big part of a game.. they seem to forget about the good old days when a game was single player experience only and it was beautiful to isolate yourself from the wolrd for 10 hours and immerse into the character.. I wish for more games like this is going to be.

Have to agree with LSDariuss – for me, a game doesn’t need an online aspect to be worth buying. A decent single-player game with a good story can provide hours of entertainment.

The problem with a lot of games featuring online is that many devs seem to focus too much on the online features and forget about the story. Uncharted is a prime example of what can be achieved in a single-player title with a good story. For me, it’s still the single best title on PS3. I’ve already completed it 4 times, and don’t see myself ever trading it in… and that’s practically unheard of for me – I play, complete and trade in or sell on.

And while I don’t deny that there’s a lot of fun to be had online, for me, it still doesn’t beat local multiplayer, where your opponent/co-op partner is sat right next to you. It’s more fun to taunt or celebrate with someone sitting next to you than it is with just a voice over a headset.
