With the release date of Fifa 2009 around the corner the start of the fifth Fifa Interactive World Cup Qualifications will start on the same date.

The FIWC is a season-long tournament mirroring the real world of football in which gamers from all around the world can participate playing Fifa 09. This tournament is only available on the Playstation 3 system.
Despite Playstation only being involved for the second time in this tournament, Darren Carter, Vice President for brand and Consumer Marketing, hopes to see the tournament establish itself into the biggest online football tournament in the world.

With certain special features only available on the PS3 version of Fifa 09, you’ll be getting dynamic real-world data and analytics, bringing the game to new heights of authenticity for football fans and gamers connected online.
If you have not heard about this, it will a feature based on the gameplay and performance of a players which will change dynamically if their performance is good or bad during certain periods, thus simulation the highs and lows of teams in the real world.

People will be able to play against each other at one of the 19 FIWC 09 Qualifier Events across the world, starting on October 25th in following countries New Zealand, Australia, Brazil, Czech Republic, France, Italy, South Africa and the US. (More may be added)

Online you’ll be competing for 13 places in the final for the best online player through the PSN. Then 32 finalists will fight for the title of Fifa Interactive World Player of the Year at the Fifa World Player Gala along with a cash prize of $20,000 and a new KIA ‘Soul‘. And (starting) with this edition of the tournament the runner up will receive $5,0000 and the third place will get $1,000.

Over the last years I have witnessed incredible virtual football action which promises thrilling games and excitement at the upcoming interactive season. I am really looking forward to the kick-off of the 5th edition where everyone has the unique chance to become a real FIFA World Cup champion

Last year over 25,000 people participated in the online leg, and over 20 event qualifiers were held in countries like New Zealand, South Africa, Brazil and the USA. Only to see the title being won by Alfonso Ramos from Spain in Berlin. On January 12th he will accept his trophy at the Fifa World Player Gala in Zurich.
