There will always be that one game that grabs your attention, a game that revolves around puzzles, shooting and adventure type games. But nowadays some gamers see to it that every game must be judged and must be proven a “Bad Game” or a good game. But do you remember the times when Sonic The Hedchog or Metal Gear Solid 1 was released in to the world. No one ever complained about them because they were the first of their kind. They had their own techniques and styles of gameplay. Now since The PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 or even the Wii for that matter has been on the shelves, gamers have just lost respect for games.
There is not one game that is identical with another game because every game has it’s own style, 3rd person or 1st person. But some gamers go out of their way to compare games with one another. For example, I noticed a post on N4G before called Halo 3 VS Killzone 2 – Graphic Comparison which got to a staggering 1130 degrees which is completely outrageous. Now everyone knows that Halo 3 and Killzone 2 came out as great exclusives for both consoles. But to compare a game that isn’t even on the same console. There are many reasons why gamers shouldn’t compare games with other games. Halo 3 was out way before Killzone 2 so obviously technology has improved for the developers. And one of the biggest reasons is that is Killzone 2 is a PlayStation 3 exclusive and Halo is a Xbox 360 exclusive. Both of these games run on a different engine there for having no comparison at all. I have seen the pictures of both games that they have compared and why the author compares these games, I just really don’t know. Another perfect example is Resistance 2 and Gears of War 2. The only reason these 2 games clashed was because of their release date and both were exclusives to either console. But of course gamers took the time to set up some photos to compare Resistance 2 to Gears Of War 2. The one thing that I don’t get is that Resistance 2 is a first person shooter and Gears of War 2 is a 3rd person shooter. That is why both of these games cannot and should not be compared to each other.
Reviewers are basically people with an opinion on a game and I respect that but no game is a terrible game. Let’s say now that you were a part of a developing company and you created a game that took a lot of hard work and a long time to produce, and then at the end of it all when your game is released to the reviewers, they literally ripped it to shreds and then all your hard work went down the drain. Well that’s what every developer has to go through when their games get reviewed. Try and picture Factor 5 and Free Radical when they were told that they had to shut down production. They try their hardest to make a video game and then they get it thrown back in their faces. No game ever deserves a zero. Every game deserves a chance. So for all you reviewers out there, think of the outcome you are going to cause before you review a game.

One of the best articles I had ever read. Keep going Tom. I really liked it.
One Of The Best Comments I Had Ever Read, lol, thanks again chris

Great article, I agree 100% with you.
Thank you for your comment.
Too many games are getting compared based, not on their merits, but on their image.
ya you are definitly right there, if only everyone thought like that.
Let’s not forget that most reviewers don’t enjoy the games they review. They just look at them from a technical point of view and give them a grade. When you review a game you can’t take your time with it. There are deadlines to be met and you have to analyze everything as much as possible, otherwise someone will call you unprofessional or inadequate. For example game X may be be really fun to play but since there is some tearing lets take out a point. Oups, found some frame drop there, lets drop another point. The story is not as engaging as that last similar game I played so off with another point. Games like killzone 2 come out and people go saying “well that’s a good game BUT this and that”. GTAIV was also critisized as not being that fun anymore because the realistic graphics make it look more serious. There are many examples of games been rated as just ok or great when I had a lot of fun with them and thought they were superb. Unfortunately gamers are buying into this as well and suddenly games are not that fun anymore, so they go play fanboy wars and say “mine is better than yours”. People are becoming impossible to please anymore..
I didn’t really like Grand Theft Auto 4 but I didn’t go on the internet and write about it, what is the point in doing that. A game is a game just let it be like that.
I’d love it if the world was like that, since there’d no doubt be pink fluffy clouds everywhere and absolutely no crime. Unfortunately us stupid humans are far too good at comparing things and we do it every day. Which piece of art is best? Which athlete was the best at the Olympics? Which chocolate bar is our favourite? Which celebrity should be saved in “I’m a fame-obsessed monkey, feed me bananas”?
There’s absolutely no stopping the comparison obsession, particularly when there’s a personal interest in the topic. When we’ve got a stake in one part of the comparison, there’s a large part of us that seeks reassurance that we’ve made the right decisions and that we’re doing well for ourselves. Splashing out for a PS3, many people want to be told that the games are looking better on the system than on rival consoles. Similarly, 360 owners would undoubtedly be happy to hear that their console still has the visual prowess to outdo modern PS3 releases.
There’s obviously a finance side to it as well, since a good number of people won’t be able to (or will have more sense than to) afford both major consoles and all the great games they offer. As a result, reviews and comparisons providing an indication of which games to ignore and which to investigate further can really help avoid any nasty surprises. For example, at the extremes, if a person read reviews of Haze and Killzone 2 today, they’d be given a useful push in the direction of the better game.
This brings this reply to your last point, that no game is a terrible game. I’m surprised you haven’t received more grief for writing that, to be honest. There’d be literally no purpose to anything if every game was just rated the same, with a comment of “Oh, they tried their best”. The real weakness of consumer feedback (by low sales or negative responses) is not that bad games are slated (this is, of course, a good thing, since it should help developers avoid making the same mistakes), it’s that great games like Okami might never happen again because mass markets don’t seem to pick up on them.
If a developer has picked up a big license and delivered a lazy, poor quality game (no doubt ported to every platform possible) and expects a good response, then they’re barking. For games like Okami and Valkyria Chronicles though, reviews are the only thing the games have going for them – if more people read the articles by reviewers, then maybe they’d actually spot the great games that get passed by.
With apologies, I can agree with very little that you said.
Ok thanks anyway, so technically when you think about it Sony or Microsoft Or Nintendo could be the cause of all this. I’m not saying they are to fully blame but they always try and do better than their competition by saying their better and they got better games.
Basically everything that Sony Microsoft and Nintendo does, people follow what ever they say because they own the console. It’s happening everywhere, in England the two biggest soccer teams are Arsenal and Manchester United (I think so anyway)
When one team scores a goal the other teams supporters get angry so they start a fight in the stadium. But like some gamers, they go on the internet and give out about their least favourite console. The bitch about whatever they don’t like and they would start a argument with you and say that their console is better than your console and then if you probably met this person he is probably a 12 year old kid. Anyway enough of that, What I am trying to say is that if you lay it all out on a table Sony Microsoft And Nintendo are to blame for the way games are being treated today.
I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the nice work Look forward to reading more from you in the future. I think it will be also nice if you add “send to email” tool so people can forward the articles to their friends easily.
Thanks for that, i haven’t really written anything in a while, but if you liked reading my posts then yeah sure i could probably get started again on them
