It looks like the developers over at DICE are very happy with the Playstation 3’s hardware capabilities. Yesterday we posted about how DICE told PSU that the PS3 has not reached it’s limit and won’t reach it’s limit until the 10 year cycle Sony has put the machine on.
With that said, Sean Decker, DICE General Manager had a presentation this week and commented even further regarding the Playstation 3’s hardware. DICE, the people behind the upcoming first person shooter, Mirror’s Edge said that the Cell Processor has allowed the team to push the resolution of our textures much higher.
“thanks to the incredible processing power of the PS3″
Speaking with Videogamer.com, Decker said:
“The great thing about it is that there’s a lot of little things like, Faith there when she’s walking like this (points to Mirror’s Edge trailer showing Faith tightrope-walking across a beam), Sixaxis controls, super easy to implement and say, OK well just balance it and then you’ve got it there, as opposed to teaching a player to say, oh let’s push this button or that button.”
“The other thing is the Cell really allows us to push the resolution of our textures much higher and we’ve taken full advantage of that as well. So there’s a lot of little quirks to it that we really like and our engineers love as well as our designers,”
As mentioned before lets look at the Playstation 3 games now and then lets have another look in a year or two. i’m sure the more time the developer spends with the PS3 the better games will look.
Take a look at the Killzone 2 comparison to see why spending more time achieves results.
