dead space 505x283 Dead Space is rated 18 for a reason

A lot of parents have let their underage children play video games that are rated 18. Dead Space is rated 18 for a reason and this is what Keith Ramsdale, Vice President and General Manager of EA UK, Ireland and Nordics said.

Dead Space is a bold and often bloody gaming experience filled with tension and terror – this one isn’t for kids

We recognize the need to help British parents better understand the age rating system for video games, and 18 means a game is not appropriate for minors. But for adult gamers who crave gruesome action in a survival horror fiction, Dead Space promises to be a big hit!

Either way, parents will most likely ignore what is said just like they did with Grand Theft Auto IV.

Of course parents will ignore the rating. Not all of them, but too many. Even though the rating is issued by the same organisation that rates films, the fact remains that some parents are moronic enough to think that because the rating is on a game, it somehow doesn’t apply.

If you won’t let your kid see the Saw movies, they shouldn’t be playing this game. End of.

These days, not all videogames are aimed at kids, so it is NOT okay to buy them whatever they want.

So parents: DO NOT buy your child this game, and then go writing letters of complaint/disgust to the Daily Mail when you realise what it contains.

If your under-age child is playing this game, then it is YOUR fault – not the people who made the game, not the people who make the consoles, and not society’s. YOU need to be a responsible parent, YOU need to check what the game is about before you buy it, and YOU need to be aware of what they’re playing.

DO NOT try to pass the buck to other people. YOU bought your child into this world, and it is solely YOUR responsibility to look after them and be aware of what they’re up to.

Sorry for the mini-rant, but this subject is one of my ‘pet peeves’, and I’m already waiting for the “ban this sick filth” headlines when people realise that kids have gotten hold of the game – which will be entirely due to irresponsible parents.

    • I have to say, thats well said! Enjoyed reading that.

I have to agree with you though, it is parents fault if they buy their kids underage games and they turn out to be a criminal when their older.

I Agree 2, but I notice that ESRB doesn’t mind of how bloody or “gorish” a game can be, as long there is no a mayor sexual content (Hot Coffee) they don’t even mind, there is the Adult Only (AO) rate that Games Developers are afraid off, cause there had been many games that are not only extremely violent and are MATURE and game retailers don’t consider mature a reason for asking an ID before purchase, cause if they are there alone and want to play it is because they are MATURE enough, that why developers try not to cross the AO line. When I was underage I buy manhunt with no problems, and the game do not create a mayor conflict in games violence even so the game purpose was to record snuff films which are “offensive” but I bet if the release a a game that include a Rape scene they’ll sue them so fast you can even get a hard on.. and remember It has to be popular, too like what Tracy Morgan was talking bout, a game that mixes excellent gameplay compelling story and XXX sexual content.
If a toddler come to a gamestop or walmart and try to buy mature games is obvious they won’t the ones that had access to them are cause the parents are gamers and if they consider their sons/daughters Mature enough to handle it so be it, there is nothing wrong with a blood and violence in games that what is all about, Gamers & Developers had known this forever the ones that overreact are the ones that are just passing by and watch his son murdering someone and enjoying it and became shock but that the reason you buy the game in the first place so they are happy, distracted and out of you way, This people don’t play so there opinion is insignificant, cause they don’t have a complete understanding of games purpose.
