A tour of the new Playstation StoreThere is a video over at Gametrailers.com that basically takes you on a tour of the new Playstation Store which was updated yesterday. In the video, you can see how good the new design and layout looks. The video also shows that you can download movies from the web and set them to your background behind the Cross Media Bar. Seems interesting.

The new revamped Playstation Store and Firmware 2.30 will launch April the 15th, confirmed by Sony. The new Playstation Store will require Firmware 2.30 as the PS Store is now built into the operating system. April 15 will be a big day for Playstation 3 owners and from April 17 the store will resume content being added especially in Europe because that is the day the Metal Gear Online beta starts, Warhawk™: Operation Broken Mirror, Lair™: Diabolical Dragons Pack and Skyguard Upgrade Pack.
Head over to Threespeech for some pictures of the new store.

THe people over at Kotaku think the Playstation Store is getting more than just a facelift in the upcoming update.
Sony’s Scott Steinberg spoke with GameDaily and said:
“On the network side, we’ve stated that we’re in a closed beta now for Home, we’ll be rolling out functionality later this year, both for the Network and making Home public to others. So 2008 is going to be the year where both on the service side as well as on a Blu-Ray side, you’re going to see everything that we’ve got.”
Kotaku think that releasing a non Home functionality sounds a lot more than just giving the Playstation Store a new design and interface.
Check out Kotaku’s verdict here.

If you haven’t noticed yet, there was no and is no Playstation Store update. The Store is still open for business but no new content. The official Playstation Blog has released some new screenshots of the new revamped design.
Grace Chen, Senior Manager, PLAYSTATION Store says:
Just a reminder that there’s no PLAYSTATION Store update today, but the Store remains open for business. As announced last week, Warhawk is still on promotion for $29.99 (regular price $39.99). We’re working hard on getting the revamped Store up and running. Keep an eye out for a walk-through video next week. In the meantime, take a peek at a few screens from the new interface.
Here are the screenshots:

The new Playstation Store won’t be region locked according to Sony. There will be no changes in the way the store operates, just a revamped design, faster load times and a new interface. So if you have multiple master accounts to access region specific stores to download content that’s not available on your own store, you don’t have to worry about a thing.

Ryan Payton, on the latest episode of the Kojima Productions Report podcast has said that MGS1 could hit the Playstation Store in US and Europe if interest is high enough in Japan.
Metal Gear Solid 1 is only confirmed for the Japanese store, with no word about US and European store as of yet. If interest is high in Japan then Konami will announce a release date for MGS1 to be released elsewhere. Let’s all hope a lot of people purchase the game in Japan, then we can all re-live the classic moments of Metal Gear Solid.

Yesterday the official Playstation Blog announced that the new Playstation Store design and interface will be available mid-April. Playstation Store will be revamped with a new look. Playstation Network users cried for a new design, a more fluid transition and this is what we have got.
Below is a screenshot of what the new revamped Store will look like:

The official post states:
As you can see in the above screenshot, the new interface allows customers to browse through eight primary categories, rather than four, making it easier to locate games, demos, game add-ons and other content. It also enables us to put up to twice as many items per page, significantly cutting down the time it takes to browse through content.
There will be no content updates April 3rd and April 10th due to the upgrade process. You will be able to still browse the Playstation Store and download the what’s currently on the store, but no new content will added on the above dates.
When the Playstation Store is set to re-open with the new design and interface, users will be prompted to download the latest firmware update which will allow users to access the new store.
Check out the Official Playstation Blog entry here.

This weeks European Playstation Store update is a little late due to last minute techinal issues. But it’s finally here.
