Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami has said that his decision to develop Vanquish for PS3 first was because he wanted to make sure it was not a shoddy port.
Speaking with PSM3, Mikami said that once the team figures out how to make the game for PS3, it will move onto Xbox 360 next.
“The team knows less about making games for PS3 than Xbox 360, so we thought the sensible thing to do was to make the game on PS3 first then move it over to Xbox,” he said.
“If we can get Vanquish to a certain standard on PS3, we can make Xbox the same.”
Mikami revealed this morning that hes to form a new studio in Tokyo after the release of Vanquish.

Karl Magnus Troedsson, executive producer at DICE, has told IGN that DLC for the single-player bit of the game takes a more time to create than multiplayer – but at the same time, the possibility is not being ruled out completely.
“We haven’t planned any DLC that comes with the actual story itself, but we won’t rule it out,” said Troedsson.
“The good thing about having a post-launch campaign that we have — that we plan to take care of the product for a long time — is that we can be reactive to what people think. But obviously, creating single-player missions is a much bigger thing than creating additional multiplayer maps.
“I would dare say we have a lot of opinion based on the fact that we’ve been making multiplayer games for so long. Already in 1942 and Battlefield 2 we had a lot of different booster packs.
“One of the very clear lessons that we learned from that is that the more booster packs people have to pay for, all you do is actually segment the community. If you don’t have this map, you can’t play with me. If I don’t have that map, I can’t play with you. Team play is very important for us… this is something that we felt that it is probably better to give away a lot of the maps for free, and then perhaps we can have some more paid DLC in the future that is not focusing on that.”
It was revealed today that the game would be dropping SecuROM from the PC version.

David Cage has told G4 that it was difficult for him to explain Heavy Rain to other people over the course of the past two years.
Speaking to Adam Sessler during GDC, Cage said that it was hard getting people to “get” what the game was all about.
“Describing the experience that is Heavy Rain’s been my nightmare for the past two years,” he said, “because I’ve had to evangelize, I’ve had to talk about this game for two years just to make people aware what we were doing, etc, etc. I really got the feeling that no matter how hard I tried, people could not get what kind of experience it would be.
“Now, it’s really funny to see players who played the game try to explain it to their friends and facing the same issues. Because if I ask you ‘what do you do in Heavy Rain?’ — you know, if I ask you ‘what you do in any shooter?’ you say ‘I shoot and it was exciting because of this or that,’ but if I ask you ‘what you do in Heavy Rain?’ it’s a difficult question to answer.
“When we were talking about the game, we always said that if this game a commercial success or failure, it’s going to send a very strong message to the industry. If it’s a failure, it’s going to tell everybody that no one’s interested in creating experiences for an adult audience based on interactive storytelling and emotions.
“But at the same time, if it’s a commercial success, maybe it’s going to open doors to other people and say that you can be creative and try something different and at the same time have some kind of commercial success.”
Heavy Rain gets a patch soon, and despite shortages in the UK, it’s being restocked.

Medal of Honor executive producer Greg Goodrich chatted to GameTrailers during GDC about the game, the guns, bringing it into the modern world, and how it would eventually see a demo released.
“This is the first Medal of Honor game not set in World War II,” said Goodrich. “We are set in modern times with the fight that is currently taking place in Afghanistan.
“We had a story we wanted to tell, and it was about what the soldiers are going through right now and the Tier 1 Operators we were introduced to – they brought a different flavor and have really come into their own in this fight.
“So, we never sat down and said ‘Hey we want to be in Afghanistan, we want to be modern’, it was just a story we wanted to tell and these guys are pretty interesting. It’s compelling, and we also tell the story of the other side. The Sledgehammer, the big-military side and while you play lots of it as a Tier 1 Operator, you’re gonna have the opportunity to play as a US Army Ranger, as an attack helicopter pilot.
“You’re gonna get both sides, you’re gonna get that feeling of full-force multiplayer”
Goodrich also said that in the game, you are going to feel like you get to do some cool things as a Tier 1, as well as use some of the “gee-whiz” toys that come along with the job.
“The shooter genre is very competitive,” added Goodrich, “and if you don’t show up with quality, there’s no point in showing up at all. So we have a full team in Los Angeles working on the single-player and DICE over in Sweden working on the multiplayer”.
He goes on to say that EA will release a demo forfolks to try sometime this year, and since the game’s slated for this fall, the team is hitting it pretty hard right now.
Once released, it will be made available for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
Check out the latest trailer for it here.

Steve Caterson, senior producer at Sony Santa Monica, has told Gamasutra that the violence in God of War III was all part of Kratos’character and the storyline, and had nothing to do with being sensationalist or controversial just for the sake of it.
“The violence question is something we always take very seriously, and we recognize the controversy involved in those works and decisions,” Caterson told the site.
“I think we tried very hard to follow one of our key guidelines that was set out when we were making God of War, and that was, ‘Don’t do anything that doesn’t fit the character’. Anything that relates to the character, as the situation evolves the character and pushes the character forward — those kinds of things you need to do and should not be shied away from.
“Don’t do anything just to be sensationalist. Don’t do anything just to be controversial. There should be a purpose and a reason for the actions and the depictions shown on-screen.
“That was the guideline that we set for ourselves and one that we tried very hard — and I think successfully — to follow in the first two products. The same thing applied for God of War III.”
When comparing the developmental prowess of PS3 compared to PS2, which the last iteration in the series was launched on, the team found that the “graphical fidelity” it was able to accomplish not only impressed the team but make it worry a bit as well.
“We were like ‘Hey, look! We can split a centaur from stem to stern and still have insides falling out!’”, Caterson reminisced. “And it was like, ‘Whoa, we can actually do that?’ And then the question was, obviously, ‘Should we do that?’
“It definitely heightens the level of brutality, but after careful consideration and viewing it and experiencing it, it became obvious that Kratos is a very brutal guy, and what he does is very brutal. We want that to be a part of the experience, and there are a few things we actually pulled back on.
“There were conversations held at a variety of levels, E3 confirmed for us that we were on the right track and we were doing what was right for the franchise and was right for the character.
“It also confirmed for many of the doubters internally that, ‘You know, they’ve got a handle on this. They’re pushing the limit, and they are going to the edge, but the games have always done that.’
“We’ve always tried to take it as far to the edge as we could.”
God of War III was released yesterday in North America, and lands in the UK this Friday.
Yesterday, it was reported by the LA Times that PS3 shortages could hinder sales of the game.

NoA president Reggie Fils-Aime has said there’s no point getting PlayStation Move if you have a Wii.
Speaking with Industry Gamers, he said:
“So I’m a consumer and I’m having a great experience with my Wii. And we know that’s the case we look at the software that’s being purchased. Consumers love the Wii. What’s going to motivate them to spend minimally $300 for a new PS3 system, plus minimally $100 for the Move motion bundle?
“So as a consumer now I’m into this for $400 and I still have to spend money on software. What’s going to motivate me to do that?”
That’s despite comments made last week by Fils-Aime, where he said he was “flattered” over what Sony was doing with the motion controller.
Move is due out in fall.

Remember when Activision tried to tickle our funny bones with that “ F.A.G.S.” Modern Warfare 2 PSA video last year? Remember when the gaming populace – like many tickled people do – kicked, flailed, and screamed until Activision pulled the video?
On a maybe possibly somewhat related note, can you guess what the latest Battlefield Bad Company 2 trailer’s about?
Yeesh. Kicking Modern Warfare 2 when it’s down? Maybe. But who ever said Modern Warfare 2 didn’t deserve it?

Namco has released 30 new screens for Dead to Rights: Retribution, and we have posted them below the break for you.
The screens show off the cover system, Shadow mauling, stalking, and pouncing enemies, Jack Slate kicking a guy in his junk, and another showing him shove shotgun down a guy’s throat.
All neat stuff, really.
Announced for a spring release, the game was confirmed for April 13 for Xbox 360 and PS3 in the US and April 16 in Europe.
Pre-order incentives were also announced back in January, one of which includes dog camo.
Enjoy the massive bunch of screens.

SCEA’s just put live a eye-popping God of War III launch trailer live. Get it after the break.
To say this trailer really is amazing is probably understatement of the year. You really need to watch it, it’s that good.
The consensus seems to be you need to buy it. This trailer, and these review scores, proves it.
The game releases today in the US, with a PAL release this week, beginning tomorrow in mainland Europe. UK and Ireland don’t get it until Friday.

Speaking at GDC, SCE localisation liaison Yeonkyung Kim has revealed the company made a big “mistake” when it passed on publishing Demon Souls.
In Japan and Asia, the game was published by Sony, but Atlus was then given publishing duties in the US, with no European release planned yet by neither firms. Something Kim regrets.
“That was a mistake,” he said. “It should have come out as a first-party title.”
Kim admitted it would be a niche title, hence why it wasn’t originally picked up with expected sales to be 15,000, but the LtD numbers for the FromSoftware RPG is at nearly a quarter of a million.
But is a sequel on the way. According to this, yes.
Thanks, 1UP.
