With the release of the Google Media Server for Google Desktop you can now stream YouTube videos directly to your Cross Media Bar (XMB).

Once you have Google Media Server configured you’ll get a one click access to the most viewed, featured, top rated content etc. A nice thing you can do is save the videos directly to your PS3’s hard drive.

Here’s a demonstration video of this.

2kgames has officially announced that BioShock for the Playstation 3 will feature Trophies. And here’s what Andrew Rudson, Programmer, Digital Extremes has to say:

While working on BioShock PS3, I had the opportunity to be one of the first developers to make use of the new PSN Trophy system. Trophies are unlocked by completing specific in-game challenges, and are a much-anticipated feature among PlayStation fans. Each Trophy is graded based on its relative difficulty: bronze, silver and gold being the most difficult. Additionally, there is one platinum Trophy per title, which is automatically unlocked after you’ve earned every other Trophy. From a development stand-point, the Trophy system implemented by Sony handles most of the work: displaying notifications; storing the status of Trophy; rejecting duplicates; etc. The game simply initializes the Trophy system, and at the appropriate time, asks it to unlock Trophies.

Integrating this system into BioShock was fairly smooth for the most part, but as with any new console functionality, there were some bumps in the road. We experienced slight delays in the game when the Trophies were unlocked with each new accomplishment – for example when you first hacked a machine, there would be a pause before the Trophy showed up rewarding you. Additionally, we tackled the problem of processing multiple Trophies; if you were good enough to zap four Splicers in water at the same time, the system would want to give you four Trophies, and we had to smooth out the system so that even when you achieved several duplicate Trophies at once, the system only awarded you one, without delay. However, beyond these technical challenges, the Trophy system integration was by-and-large a painless process.

We’re in the final stages now, which basically just means testing that Trophies unlock when they are supposed to, and translating the descriptions of each Trophy into FIGS (French, Italian, German, and Spanish). The Trophies themselves are beautiful – kudos to the art team who made them a perfect fit for the world of Rapture on the PS3 – and seeing this system in its final testing stages is a wonderful example of how far BioShock PS3 has come over the past few months, and how hard everyone on the team has worked perfecting each new aspect of the game.

So yes, Trophies will be in BioShock when its released in October.

According to Signal Hill analyst Todd Greenwald, Sony will hold its ground against an Xbox 360 price cut, which has been all but confirmed.

Greenwald said:

“We do not expect a price cut on the PS3 just yet,

Sony appears to be focused on profitability right now, and actually has some momentum behind it now with the Blu-ray win, and its strongest line-up of exclusive titles since the console’s launch (Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo 5, LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2, etc).”

I don’t think Sony need to worry about a thing with such a strong line up.

10 vs 10 will be featured in EA Sports upcoming football game, FIFA 09. The Line Producer, David Rutter, spoke about the PS3 version and said:

“We’ve managed to get 10 v 10 this year online through strength of will and technological nous. [But] we want to make sure the control system for controlling goalkeepers is compelling enough before putting it in, because no game has done it particularly well, if it’s even been in there.

So we want to make sure it’s good enough before putting it in because the last thing you want to do is say “tada – 11 v 11″… and the goal keepers are rubbish.”

Not only that but David mentioned that the PS3 version will have anti-aliasing running in FULL effect.

After the recent article on game install for the Playstation 3, here’s another regarding Soul Calibur IV. The Soul Calibir 4 IV install option is not a whopping 6.7GB, and the confirmed size of the install is 2.85GB.

There are reports saying that this could only be mandatory and will not require an install, but if you want faster loading times and don’t mind almost 3GB of data being eaten up on your hard drive then by all means install it.

The Last Guy is a title Sony trademarked sometime back. Since then, not a lot has been said about this particular title apart from receiving an E10 rating from the ESRB.

If you take a look at the teaser site, all you can see is a bunch of red stickmen marching. What is noticable is the date that reads 2008.7.11 which is this Friday so we could see something then. I wonder what it is?

We’ve tried digging for more information but didn’t really get anywhere.

Fallout 3 has been refused classification in Australia. The Office of Film and Literature Classification has given an RC to Fallout 3, developed by Bethesda. It is now illegal to sell Fallout 3 in Australia.

No one yet knows as to what made Fallout 3 get the ban. Kotaku think it maybe something to do with drugs and gore within the game.

“It’s not known at this stage if the ban was for drug use, as the original rumour states, or gore as I was predicting.”

The game will probably be edited and resubmitted after the drugs and gore have been toned down.

The 40GB Playstation 3 could be replace according to a Wal-Mart memo. The Wal-Mart memo states that the 40GB PS3 hardware will be replace, it says:

“Item will be replace with a new model in early August”

This doesn’t mean it will have a bigger hard drive, it could be the smallest thing such as putting a Dual Shock 3 controller in or maybe a bundle it with a game.

After being on the phone to Sony UK and Sony USA regarding firmware 2.40 and bricked Playstation 3’s, they told me that they will replace your PS3’s free of charge as long as you can prove its really bricked and not working with firmware 2.40 installed. How the hell are you supposed to do that? But beware, they will ask a horde of questions such as ‘when was the system last working’ and ‘try switching it on now’ etc. Act serious and down to earth because chances are they won’t believe you.

For those of you with a bricked PS3, Sony said that they will send a replacement unit (most likely a refurbished unit) within 2-3 working days, a courier will pick up your bricked unit and give you your replacement unit. Not sure what happens next though, i presume thats it.

For those of you that don’t know what a bricked PS3 is, its basically a broken, non functional PS3.

Here’s some customer service numbers:

UK: 08705 99 88 77

USA: 1-800-345-7669

For those of you phoning customer service, good luck!
