When all the Xbox 360 fan boys found out that the Playstation 3 exclusive shooter Haze ran at sub HD resolution it of 576p it got slammed hard and tried to make it look like a really bad game (and its not a bad game at all).

One of the Talk Playstation readers have e-mailed me asking me to make a post that Xbox 360 exclusive (or timed exclusive) runs at 585P. And that game is Ninja Gaiden 2. Does this mean it makes NG2 a bad game? No. Did it make Haze a bad game? No.

This is currently a rumor… A user over at the Beyond3D forums has said the following:

“it seem 1120 for horizontal but need confirmation, there are not good screenshot for horizontal check. for vertical 585 it’s relatively sure and reliable 1120×585 would be another type of anamorphic resolution, opposed to the other classic anamorphic 1024×600 use in some X360 (COD4, PGR3, Oblivion, TR…)

but there are little more pixel in 1120×585 than in 1024×600 and 1120×585 is the better use of the EDRAM space that i have seen. it’s 9.998MiB, just a 2KiB residue unused. maybe it explain this choice”

Screenshots with potential proof is here.

It doesn’t matter what resolution the games run at, its how well it plays. I just thought i would stick up for the Playstation fans and just get a point across. Resolution = means nothing. Steady frame rate = vital.

This post is a prediction, speculation, rumor type one so if you have any please comment and let me know what your opinions are.

This is an article looking at the possibilities of other 360 ‘exclusive’ games coming to the PS3 after the BioShock incident.

Lets talk about what 360 games are possible to make their way to the Playstation 3. Afterall everyone said that BioShock will never ever be on the PS3 but look what happened! BioShock was a 360 exclusive and its making its way to the PS3 and will be released in October with enhanced visuals and content included. What other 360 ‘exclusive games’ could make the same move?

Mass Effect

Electronic Arts aren’t really known for making games exclusive so i think it’s likely that PS3 will see Mass Effect 2. It’s like it is their policy to release games multiplatform. Remember Electronic Arts now have control of the Mass Effect series.

Ninja Gaiden 2

Ninja Gaiden Sigma was released on the Playstation 3 exclusively but what makes Team Ninja not doing a port later on in the future? Itagaki said:

“We’ve announced it as an Xbox 360 exclusive, but I don’t own Tecmo the company.”

Infinite Undiscovery

360 is doing so bad in Japan and this is a Japanese RPG. It would make sense for Square Enix to release it on Playstation 3 is the 360 version does bad. Some of you might say that Microsoft is publishing this game but not fully, Square Enix is a publisher too.

Dead Rising

So the 360 got Devil May Cry from us, we can take Dead Rising from them. Prediction is that it will eventually get ported over to the PS3. Many people said that Lost Planet made up for the Devil May Cry loss but others think not. Could Dead Rising make up for the loss?

Tales of Vesperia

If you take a look at this post you will see that this game was listed for the Playstation 3 too. It turned out to be a mistake but they might be considering or it could be decided it will be coming out for the PS3 but don’t want the world to know.

Gears of War

Hmmm a lot of people are doubting this one. We will just have to see what happens in the future, anything can happen.

Ace Combat 6

Released as a 360 exclusive but will make its way to the Playstation 3 due to it being a ‘timed’ exclusive.

Left 4 Dead

Currently being released on both 360 and PC but the developers have stated in the past that a PS3 version is possible. Electronic Arts might port the game but lets hope they do a better job than they did with The Orange Box.

Any games you would like to mention or if you have any predictions and thoughts? What games WOULD you like to see on PS3?

So there are rumors saying it will come and rumors saying it won’t come. The Bitbag says they e-mailed 2k regarding Bioshock on the Playstation 3 and got this reply:

“2K has not made any announcements regarding a PS3 version, which makes

it a rumor and it is company policy to not comment on rumors. Please

note that we have you coded to receive all press releases, so when any

significant company news breaks, you’ll be on the front lines of

receiving an official notification.”

So where in that e-mail does it say “Bioshock is not coming to PS3″? All the e-mail states is that 2k have not announced it for the PS3….. YET.

I mean if you look at the previous rumors…

What about the code that was found in the Bioshock PC demo’s config.ini?

“[Console]

Console (XBox360, PS3) specific settings

StreamingDynamicFloatingLimit:

If this is a positive number, then instead of using the fixed per-level

limits, the StreamingDynamic resource will use as much memory as is

available as long as the total memory allocated by the game is less than
the specified number. In other words, StreamingDynamic will grow and
shrink to fit to the available memory instead of being locked to a fixed
budget StreamingDynamicFloatingLimit=500″

As you can see “PS3″ is listed after the comma. They denied it by saying the code is very early, but just goes to show it was in fact being coded on/for PS3, but was haulted due to a contract/deal with MS for it to be exclusive.

Ok moving on, what about the EGM rumor saying that Bioshock will come to PS3 as early as this September. Take a look at this article.

I can see why the Xbox fans don’t like this rumor and would probably cry if these rumors are true and besides more games are moving from the Xbox 360 to the PS3. Mass Effect 2 anyone?

Also Bioshock 2 is apparently coming to the PS3 so it would make sense to release the first Bioshock on PS3. Not only that but 2k are recruiting for “AAA” game developers for the PS3 and the only AAA game that is in development is Bioshock 2.

“Experience developing for next-generation game consoles (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii).”

There is enough evidence and news to say that Bioshock will indeed come to the Sony Playstation 3.

After browsing the Gametrailers.com forum i found a decent image that shows Killzone 2 from E3 2005 against Killzone 2 from Playstation Day 2008. The results are shockingly amazing, this is very, very close.

Take a look at the image:

Killzone E3 2005 versus Playstation Day 2008

If you take a good close look at the comparison you can see that Killzone 2 2008 has the clearer picture with far better colours and lighting effects. It just has an overall slicker look. I know what your going to say now… the E3 2005 looks better in motion…

Ok, maybe it does, because CG is meant to look better than actual engine video. Take a look at this comparison video where it compares Killzone 2 from E3 2005 against Killzone 2 from E3 2007. Please note that the video from E3 2007 is running in real time on the PS3.

The comparison is very close, you would need a magnifying glass to see any real difference.

Your thoughts?

I’ve just downloaded the Haze demo (1557mb) from the European Playstation Store and here’s my initial verdict.

Graphics – 8/10

My first impressions on the graphics were WOW. The look and feel is great. Haze looks so much better when actually seeing it on your 40″ HDTV. The videos you see on the internet aren’t very good and doesn’t show what this game is capable of. The explosions look great and the firefights suffer no slowdown at all and runs at a solid frame rate.

The foliage, trees etc make it look like your in a real jungle. During my time of playing i didn’t notice any jaggies or blury graphics in the background, it looked solid and crisp. Oh and for those that want to know Haze runs at 720p max, it won’t run at 1080p.

Sound and Music – 8/10

The voice acting in this Haze is top notch no complaints here. Guns sound good enough, the explosions sound real, there is a lot going on and the sound does well to keep up. No problems with the sound and music. During firefights there are explosions going off, team mates shouting, enemies calling etc. It’s all good.

Gameplay – 9/10

Although i only had a short play through the demo i can tell you that the game is very fun play. The gameplay mechanics are excellent with the use of nectar to boost your movements, strength and to easily see the enemies work well. The controls are good, the learning curve is around 30 minutes. Haze uses the pretty much the same controls as your standard first person shooter with triggers to shoot, X to jump etc.

Co-op – 9/10

This is where i spent most of my time. Playing co-op over the Playstation Network suffered no lag at all and it’s super fun! Me and a friend teamed to go up against the AI through the campaign mode.

There is a lobby system when looking for a game to join and, its easy to use and navigate, you won’t have a problem joining a game. I havent witnessed any connection problems either, i’ve always connected first time.

This is probably where we will spend most of our time playing Haze.

Overall – 8/10

I had a good experience playing through Haze, the cut scenes are good, the voice acting is great and the gameplay is even better. If you havent played Haze yet, download the demo from the European Playstation Store. You will probably play through single player one or two times and then spend the rest of your time online. I’d say Free Radical have done a fantastic job.

I will be buying Haze when it’s released later this month purely because co-op is fun!

Here are some screenshots that i took:-

As expected Grand Theft Auto IV scored very high marks across the board, with many 10 out of 10’s etc. Lets have a look to see what score the big boys gave Grand Theft Auto IV:-

IGN – 10/10

Gamespot – 10/10

1UP – A+

GamesRadar – 10/10

Gamespy – 5/5

Kotaku – Love and Hate list

Gametrailers – 9.8/10

So it got pretty much 10/10 everywhere apart from some places, the above list are the best reviews i’ve read for this game. If you havent yet bought GTAIV check out the above reviews to find out if GTAIV is for you!

So we all know that Electronic Arts attempted to buyout Take 2 Interactive but it never happened. What if it did happen, would Grand Theft Auto under EA be as good as GTA has been in the past? I mean look at what they did to Command and Conquer when they took over Westwood Studios, they pretty much destroyed the series when EA brought us Command and Conquer Generals, it just wasn’t the same. What Grand Theft Auto IV is good at is the fact that it has that GTA touch to it, Rockstar kept the same concept and idea, but just made it next-gen.

We all feared that if EA took over Take 2 they would destroy GTA forever just like they have done with takeovers in the past. I think that EA would have completely destroyed GTA by trying to make it ‘their’ game and just lose that GTA touch altogether. It wouldn’t be GTA at all. No one can do it as good as Rockstar.

We no longer need to worry because it hasn’t happened and Take 2 has rejected all of EA’s offers.

What’s your view on this? Do you think EA had the potential to destroy the GTA series by making it ‘their’ game?

Here is a little how-to guide on how to run Grand Theft Auto at 1080p on the Playstation 3. If you have a 1080p set and the game keeps booting up in 720p all you need to do is disable the other resolutions, i will show you how to do that now…

Go to to the display option under settings
Select video output settings
Select HDMI
Select custom
Untick 1080i and 720p
Press X
Press X again
Select finish
Launch game

Please note that you need a 1080p HDTV in the 40″ range and preferably connected via HDMI.

We have new MotorStorm 2 information which is featured in the latest Playstation World Magazine in the UK. MotorStorm 2 is going to be bigger than a sequel to the first muddy racing game; in fact MotorStorm 2 is that big it has its very own island and 16 tracks to race around on!

MotorStorm 2’s island is a tropical paradise that allows players to race on several different tracks including jungles, beaches and swamps. The location of the island is in South Pacific and features a volcano – maybe we can expect some volcanic action while racing or something along those lines.

Here is a picture of the island thanks to Playstation World Magazine (click to enlarge):

MotorStorm 2 Map and Island

So now that we know the MotorStorm 2 world is a South Pacific island, what sort of tracks can we expect?

Well looking at the map we can expect beach races, swamps, high mountain encounters and hopefully some snow as you can see there is snow on and around the volcano in the north side of the island.

Obviously MotorStorm 2 offers a variety of environments to race on compared to the desert environments from the first game. The new tracks will feature more multiple ways to find the finish line. This should add a hell of a lot more fun and last appeal.

Apparently water will play a key moment in the game allowing you to cool your engine as you splash through the waves on the beach and the grummy swamp. So whenever you boost your nitro and your engine is about to blow, why not cool it off in the water? But don’t expect players using the water as an advantage though, it will probably slow you down at the same time. You get the picture.

The 16 new tracks in MotorStorm 2 will feature fully destructible trees and foliage, so imagine you’re in a Monster Truck and you hit a tree and it crashed down on to the track damaging your opponents behind. Another example is that the bigger vehicles will be able to smash through trees etc no problem, but the smaller vehicles such as the bikes will have to find a way around the blocking obstacles.

MotorStorm Screenshot 01

That said, bikes will be able to run up tree logs or duck under to skim the logs to get the advantage. Every track in the game will feature fantastic hazards to encounter for example, the ashes from the volcano will reduce your vision on the mountain range.

New vehicles will be included second time around including the massive monster trucks that will probably crush just about anything that gets in its way including opponents.

New animation is on the cards so when you fall off your bike expect the driver to spring out the way, jumping up and over the oncoming vehicles or, if he wants to die by staying put.

There will be more players racing on the same track coupled by faster load times. So don’t expect to wait around long.

MotorStorm Screenshot 02

MotorStorm 2 will feature 4 player split screen and provide interactivity with Home and offer a unique custom race mode for online play. The graphics will be improved as MotorStorm 2 will feature a tweaked graphics engine.

So there you have it, information on the next MotorStorm! Buy the magazine for even more information and screenshots from the game!

Are you looking forwards to MotorStorm 2?

Eight Days for Playstation 3

Eight Days was first shown at E3 2006 an probably took the show. Eight Days looks to be like a third person action game, something similar to Uncharted Drakes Fortune. But what the hell has happened to the game? There has been no news or talk about the game and i want to find out as much information as possible.

I’ve looked on the net to try and find any information regarding Eight Days and where its currently up to in development. I couldn’t find much apart from game information from IGN:

Originally known only for its breathtaking demo of an exploding gas station shown in video form at E3 2005(and later, a demo of a car being shot up in a different CES 2006 presentation) , this game eventually was revealed as Eight Days, a crime epic from SCE Studios London. Set in the desert of Arizona, the game features eight days in the bad times of the criminal element. The game features open environments that you can run in, with fully-modeled buildings that you can exploit when the action gets too heavy on the streets and outskirts.

Source: IGN

To be honest i don’t think this game is cancelled, i think the game is still in development but is probably at the bottom of the list. It could be released in 2009 and more news maybe at E3 2008. There is not really a lot of information about this game at all, i might contact Sony myself and see what they say. We can only wait.

Here is the Wikipedia article.

Do you think the game is still in development?

Let’s go back in time, and take a look at how Metal Gear Solid has evolved in terms of graphics and technology. The first ever Metal Gear game appeared in 1987 on the MSX2 computer and was released in Japan and Europe. Metal Gear was one of the first games to use stealth. Metal Gear was later released in North America, Europe and Japan on the NES, selling a massive 1 million units. Boasting good graphics for its time and exciting gameplay as no one has witnessed stealth games before.

Metal Gear

In 1990 Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, the sequel to Metal Gear was released for the MSX2 in Japan only. The sequel made numerous enhancements including a better storyline and better graphics.

The Metal Gear series didn’t return until around 8 years later. In 1998 Metal Gear Solid was released for the Playstation which took the series to the next level with new graphics and gameplay elements. While Metal Gear Solid kept to its predecessor (Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake) in terms of gameplay but presented it in glorious 3D graphics.

Metal Gear Solid

Metal Gear Solid

The first two Metal Gear games were successful but Metal Gear Solid was a massive hit selling over 6 million units. Similar stealth games started to pop up including Tenchu and Splinter Cell.

It wasn’t much more than 3 years later until we saw the next Metal Gear title, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty was released for the Playstation 2 in 2001. MGS2 sold more than 7 million units. MGS2 took huge advantage of the power under the PS2’s hood and made the game look fantastic.

Metal Gear Solid 2

Metal Gear Solid 2

Metal Gear Solid 2

Metal Gear Solid 2 feature new additional gameplay features such as first-person aiming, allowing the player to target certain things within the game. The AI was also vastly improved allowing the enemies be blinded, distracted by fruit and other obstacles. The AI went as far as calling for backup and if they did you would be in deep trouble.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was released another 3 years later which is actually a prequel to Metal Gear (the first metal gear game). MGS3 wasn’t as successful as the previous Metal Gear games, only selling 3.75 million units.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

MGS2 and MGS3 provided further enhancements to gameplay and graphics as you see from the screenshots. Many rumours started floating around saying that MGS3 was the last game in the series to make it a trilogy, but think about it; it has past the trilogy mark. Many people forget about the first game on the NES.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is still in development and is due to be released exclusively on PS3 worldwide on June 12 2008. MGS4 is apparently the last in the series. MGS4 will take massive advantage of the PS3’s hardware capabilities and it’s obviously the best looking Metal Gear game ever…

So the Metal Gear series went from a gameboy colour style game to become a massive 3D digital art display.
