Blu-ray overtaking DVD in Western Europe
Futuresource have announced that Blu-ray player sales have outpaced DVD players during the first three years. So put it like this, when DVD launched, DVD sold this much in the first three years. When Blu-ray launched, Blu-ray sold more in the first three years.
MD Corporate Development of Futuresource, Jim Bottoms said:
“One of the questions we are asked on a regular basis is how does Blu-ray (BD) uptake compare with the uptake of DVD in the early years, and how do the BD player forecasts look alongside DVD player adoption. Focusing on like-for-like coverage of Western Europe and comparing the first few years of uptake, the early indications are that BD player sales are running way ahead of DVD after the same time period.”
The Playstation 3 were included as a Blu-ray player during the analysis but to offset this they have included Playstation 2’s as DVD players.
Looks like Blu-ray is stronger than we thought.
