Capcom’s upcoming downloadable title, Super Street Fighter II HD Remix will be releasing next week in the PlayStation Store. Unlike the traditional Thursday release, it will be coming on a Tuesday, November 25th. The PlayStation Network gets it one day earlier than Xbox Live.

That’s not the only thing that will be releasing next week from Capcom, they have also announced that they have the tracklist for download exclusive to the PSN. If you think that’s all, they have also let out a teaser that PlayStation Network users will be getting in the Holiday season. No telling what it will be.

Seems that Capcom has been taking a liking towards the PlayStation Network. Having exclusive challenge rooms in Bionic Commando Rearmed, and getting their own store within the PlayStation Store.

During Gran Turismo’s 10th Anniversary, they held an event at New York called “DOWNSHIFT SESSION 2008.” At the event, people were able to learn about the history of Gran Turismo, and was able to play all the past titles.

Polyphony Digital was able to show off Gran Turismo 5 Prologue with Sony’s new digital projector “SRX-S110.” The projector displays 3480×2160 pixels, meaning 2160p. Not only that, but it was capable to be played in 240fps.

Gran Turismo in 4 times the resolution of Full HD

Polyphony Digital also presented two technological trials for the next generation at this event. Both of the presentations, were founded on the philosophy of “achieving the highest possible quality” held over the years by Gran Turismo.

One of these, was a time trial competition using Sony’s newest digital cinema projector, the “SRX-S110”. Gran Turismo 5 prologue is already in Full HD resolution at 1920 x 1080 pixels, providing the highest resolution possible in today’s TV content. However in this time trial, the Full HD image was increased to twice the resolution both vertically and horizontally (4x the surface area), enabling game play at an ultra high resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. This was performed by connecting and synchronizing four Playstation 3’s outputting a quarter of the image each at 1920×1080 pixels, but you must remember this demands an extremely high quality image from the source that can withstand the ultra high resolution. It can be said that this demonstration was only made possible, because the source image was Gran Turismo.

What supported this time trial on the display side, was the newest digital cinema projector from Sony, the SRX-110. This “4K”SXRD”(*1) projector is the next generation in projector technology, enabling a resolution of 4096 x 2160 pixels, equivalent to the high resolution image of 35mm film. The high 4000:1 device contrast ratio and a response time of 5 milliseconds, also adds to the level of breathtaking image expression introduced here.

The crowd was simply amazed by the clarity of the image displayed on the massive 220 inch screen, and the players who participated in the time trial expressed their excitement of how perfectly in focus the screen is even close up, and at the quality of Gran Turismo.

The Ultra-Real, 240fps Demonstration

The other display was a playable demonstration on a Nano-Spindt FED / Field Emissions Display developed by Sony, with a frame rate of 240fps (240 frames per second).

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue has already achieved a frame rate of 60p (progressive), but in this demo, Gran Turismo was made playable at four times this frame rate at 240fps.

The SXRD demonstration described above used four PS3’s to improve image quality, but this used the same to increase the frame rate.

The display used in this demonstration was the 19 inch nano-Spindt FED screen produced by FE Technologies, who is a company that has taken over the development of the FED technology that was being developed at Sony. This display contains over 10,000 electron sources called the nano-spindt emitter, per pixcel. A fluorescent substance is exposed to the electrons from the emitters to produce light, and this format is very close to a cathode-ray tube in principle. The resulting view angle is wider in comparison to a LCD panel, and it shows superior performance when displaying moving images, with no blurring of the outline.

Demon’s Souls has been dated in Japan and will be released on the 5th of February 2009. Demon’s Souls is a bew dark fantasy action RPG in development by Armoured Core creators From Software.

This is what 1UP have to say about the game:-

While details are still scant on Demon’s Soul, SCE Japan producer Takeshi Kajii described the game to Famitsu as a spiritual successor to King’s Field, the From-developed first-person RPG that first hit it big on the original PlayStation. “I am a fan of From Software, but naturally that also means there are parts of their games I’m not satisfied with, too,” he said. “If this was a new King’s Field game, there would be areas we wouldn’t be able to touch since they’re part of the series; working together like this, we can try to make something really new.”

Demon’s Souls takes place in the kingdom of Boletaria, currently enshrouded in a deep fog thanks to its king inadvertently unleashing an ancient monster from his slumber. You, a nameless hero who you’re free to customize Elder Scrolls-style, must penetrate into Boletaria and save the kingdom — but like many US RPGs these days, the game is slated to be extremely open-ended. “You get only the barest minimum of a goal, and there’s nothing forcing you to do anything in the game,” Kajii said. “People say to you ‘Save the world,’ but you can ignore them and keep going if you like.”

No word on an American or European release.

In an interview with The Area over at Autodesk, creators of graphic software Maya has said that he has never worked with 60,000 polygons before on one item.

Sam Sharit is a senior character artist at independent videogames developer Insomniac Games, located in sunny Southern California. His role there involves mentoring junior character artists, along with the creation and development of character-related art and systems. This includes modeling, texturing, pipeline creation, and scripting.

The Area: What is the average poly count for a game character created for next-gen games?

Sam: All depends on the game. For Resistance 2 we hovered around 5 to 10 thousand triangles. We actually count in quads at insomniac so that would be 2500 to 5000 quads. This is an average, but for things like bosses we go as high as 60,000 tris. However, as I said, it depends on the game, so a game like GTA is going to have lower counts due to the sheer number of assets in the game.

That’s a lot of polygons for a boss, expect to be up against ultra sharp bosses in Resistance 2!

One of the better levels, The Azure Palace has returned to LBP. This level got moderated and deleted for some unknown reason as it really doesn’t contain any copyright material. Looks like Sony is listening and making changes to the moderation system afterall.

There is an online petition you can sign to help improve the moderation system in LBP.

Due to carelessness on Sony’s part, levels have been removed from the online servers without reason or rhyme. It is getting worse, with levels like The Azure Palace

For those that don’t have LBP, here’s a video of the Azure Palace.
