Command and Conquer Red Alert 3 is back on track for the Playstation 3. After previous reports stating the game is cancelled because EA can’t develop the game on the PS3 for technical reasons, the game is now in development for Sony’s machine.

David Silverman confirmed to VideoGamer.com that development on the PS3 version is back:

definitely people working on it.

When we announced Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 we announced there was a PS3 version, then we decided to go on the record and say that we’ve suspended it to make sure that RA3 was able to come out to the level of quality that it must adhere to to be called a C&C game. We’ve hit that mark, we’ve shipped the game. And you know what that means? That means there’s another version left to be had. So there’s definitely people working on a PS3 version and we’ll be talking more about that later.

PS3 owners will be pleased if they wait for the game as it won’t be released alongside the Xbox 360 and PC version on November 14th.

If you’re a PS3 owner and you don’t own a PC and you don’t have an Xbox 360 you don’t have to write on your Christmas or Hanukkah list that you want to have an Xbox,

You can play Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, bide your time and you’ll be very pleased. We’re looking at doing some really cool things with the PS3 version. Since it is shipping later we’re putting in a lot of cool content and really taking advantage of both the 1080p nature and the high-defness of Blu-Ray and also the fact that it can hold just so much more space.

Way to go EA! PS3 owners will hopefully enjoy 1080p graphics and added content.

A lot of developers criticise the Playstation 3’s Blu-Ray player reading too slow. The fact of the matter is that the PS3 has the fastest Blu-Ray player to date. The Japanese have put 2nd generation BD recorder, 3rd generation standalone Blu-Ray players and the PS3’s Blu-Ray player on test. The PS3 came out on top in terms of loading times.

Title in test : Men in Black
Sony PS3: 43 seconds
Sony BDP-S350:66 seconds
Sony BDP-S5000ES:67 seconds
Sony BD Recorder : BDZ-T50: 80 seconds
Sony BD Recorder : BDZ-X100:81 seconds

Not sure about constantly streaming content from these players but that is where the PS3 fails most according to game developers.

Has 2008 been a great year for Sony? Yes and No, some people have already said why Sony havent had the best of years and i have to agree with them, but theres one thing i didnt do, buy an Xbox 360!

Anyway, was 2008 the year of PS3? No. Will 2009 be the year of PS3? Possibly. The following games are the ones to look out for and could make Sony leader of 2009. Please note these are PS3 only games, some of them may not make 2009 (some of them aren’t even announced but could be announced soon) but maybe, just maybe.

In no particular order.

  • Infamous
  • Killzone 2
  • God of War 3
  • Ratchet and Clank
  • The agency (also on PC)
  • Gran Turismo 5 (see here)
  • Yakuza 3
  • Trico
  • Uncharted 2
  • Jak 4
  • Heavy Rain
  • White Knight Chronicles
  • Final Fantasy XIII Versus
  • Demon’s Soul
  • MAG
  • Wardevil
  • Twisted Metal

What games are you looking forwards to?

Codemasters role playing game Rise of the Argonauts has missed it’s planned November release, however the game is still planned to be released before Christmas. Codemasters also confirmed that there will be no demo for the game as they feel that chopping the storyline for the sake of 15 minutes is pointless.

Looks like you will have to wait a little longer for the game unless you was getting it for Christmas in the first place, in that case, this delay won’t effect you.

Just a quick heads up to the people that will be buying Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm and don’t have a lot of space left of their PS3 hard drives. The game will require a massive 3.9GB installation before you get to play the game. Make sure you have some free space before buying this.

What can we expect from Burnout Paradise next year? The next update for the game will be called Burnout Paradise Party where players are in one place – gathered around a single screen. I bet your wondering what this Party pack is all about… here’s 8 steps.

  1. Get together with up to 7 friends and gather round a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.  Here you can see us lining up for a little Halloween-themed fun with Burnout Party.  You can see the full session in our latest Crash TV video podcast – it’s The Halloween Special!
  2. Start Burnout Paradise and get the Party Pack update from the Store or Xbox Live
  3. Pause to admire the excellent new Party Edition visuals and atmosphere!  We’ve overhauled not just the presentation screens but also the in-game visuals, which are now brighter and more colourful in recognition of Burnout’s new party theme.
  4. Select 8-player party and get ready for the action.
  5. It’s pass-the-pad, so you’ll only need one controller to play, no matter how many players are involved!
  6. The game selects a player at random and drops them into Paradise with a simple, fun challenge to complete.
  7. Pick up the winner and run around cheering / commiserate the loser
  8. Give it another go!  Don’t forget, there are extra trophies and achievements available within this pack.

You’ll be able to purchase this awesome premium Burnout Paradise content from February 2009.

The next Playstation 3 firmware update, believed to be 2.51 will fix the black and white issues 2.50 has. This is because 2.50 forces your TV to 60Hz.

This problem is apparently to do with older TV’s and does not affect HDTV’s or some models of PS3, one PR user said that it can be corrected by going to video settings and scrolling all the way to the bottom and change the 50Hz setting from auto to 50Hz.

So, looks like Sony are onto the case and fixing the problem in the next firmware update.

Some of product-reviews.net users left some comments regarding this issue, here’s what they have to say.

Yeah.. This is definitely a problem that’s got to do with forcing the 60Hz. I’ve got 2 old PAL SD TVs at home: and the only one capable of playing the videos in color is the one that’s also NTSC compatible! (Btw it’s the same prob I’ve noticed – even when everything was ok- when I try play some Demos from the US store, The demo just tries to force a different rate, and turns BW as well.

Not really that annoyed by it, not everything works flawlessly, but yeah, Sony should’ve tested it on several different setups as suggested by a previous poster. An HD TV has been on my list for some time now, but I shouldn’t have to break the bank and get one just because of a fault like this, and neither should anybody else. Although, that said, I think Sony will be courteous and try to fix the issue. I doubt it’d be a big problem, and they really don’t want to annoy all their customers who still have SD TVs.

Thought I’d give Sony a ring too. They confirmed that they do know about it and the next patch will fix it. The only thing they couldn’t do is say when that patch would come out. But the rep said it was likely to be in a couple of weeks.

So good news that it will be fixed, and it sounds like, although not imminent, it will be sooner rather than later.

So, as development of Killzone 2 continues the game looks better and better everytime we see a new trailer or video. In this case, lets take a look at what the game looked like at E3 2007 compared to the latest videos.

Killzone 2 E3 2007

Singleplayer video (latest)

As you can see, the facial hair in the second image looks more realistic, the objects in the background are more detailed and the lightning looks a bit better.

Here’s the video.

I wonder how good the game is when development has finished?

The latest rumours suggest that a new Metal Gear Solid 4 version is on the way. Remember the voice of god or something like that? Rumours said that 6 months on from the games release, June 12th there would be some sort of extending ending. December 12th is the date this is supposed to happen, no details were revealed when rumours were floating around.

Come December 12th it is believed that you will be able to download a patch/update via the Playstation Store, or it could be a code that unlocks the extended ending as the video could already be on the MGS4 Blu-Ray disc.

Other new features that people would like to see (including me) are:

* New Co-op Game(s) (Maybe a Seperate Storyline/Gameplay featuring 2-8 players)
* Trophy Support
* Boss Suvival Mode
* Demo Theater
* New Weapons
* New Items
* VR Missions
* Raiden Game (Maybe a Storyline/Gameplay to take place between MGS2 and MGS4 – 5 year gap)
* Snake Game (Maybe a Storyline/Gameplay to take place between MGS2 and MGS4 – 5 year gap)
