A comment made in the EU forums has cleared up the confusion about LittleBigPlanet’s region locking. According to the SCE developer, all downloads will be shared worldwide, the differences between regions are on how moderation will be handled. They have worked around these issues, thus only having one region.

Hi all, as many of you may have heard already in an interview at Leipzig the senior producer for LittleBigPlanet announced that the game is region locked. This is in fact not the case, and all shared levels in the game will be available worldwide. The confusion arose out of regional differences in how moderation will work as there are different legal rules each region have to play by, and at one point this looked like it may require the game to be independent in each region – however this has been worked around and there will only be one region for the game…. a LittleBigRegion.

Apologies for any confusion over this issue, however I’m pretty sure you’re happy with the result.

Remember the 1996 arcade racing game GTI Club? Well Konami will be remaking the game with a number of enhancements and the new version will be called GTI Club+. Here’s a gameplay video of the racing game from the Games Convention 2008.

Small cars, tight turns, and almost no maneuverability.

Killzone 2 is set to receive a patch soon after it launches. The patch will include the following; co-op mode and vehicles will be made available in online modes.

Co-op mode will be available through the story mode, what we don’t know is whether this is online of offline.

Currently, vehicles are only available in the single player mode. Bringing them into multiplayer will make the experience better.

Killzone 2 has already been confirmed to include bots for online and offline game modes. Free downloadable content is also expected after the game has launched in February 2009.

Over at the PlayStation Universe forums a user pre-ordered their copy of Little Big Planet at their local GameStop. Not only did he get the code for the Kratos Sackboy but he got something else. he describes it as this:

I will describe it, I may upload pictures soon. Okay, it has a slip off sleeve, once that is slipped off there is a box under it containing allot of cards to match up to form a larger image. I got this at gamestop, I am unsure if it was meant to be given out or not.

Like the user said he is unsure if this was meant to be given out.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced that they plan to bring The Agency, Free Realms, and DC Universe Online to PAL territories. After teaming up with Sony Online Entertainment it is certain that Europe will see the named games.

Here’s the press release.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) announced today that SCEE has joined forces with Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE) – developer of groundbreaking online Massive Multiplayer Online (MMOs) games including the wildly popular EverQuest® — in an arrangement that will bring a whole new dimension to PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) gaming.

Under the new agreement, SCEE will publish and distribute three MMOs developed by SOE for PS3 throughout the PAL territories. In addition, SCEE will also publish the PC versions of DC Universe and The Agency on behalf of SOE in the PAL territories. The new arrangement allows SCEE to benefit from SOE’s experience in a different area of video gaming publishing, one which opens up a whole host of possibilities for PS3.

The games included in the agreement are The Agency (PS3 and PC), a fast-paced, action shooter set in an present day online persistent world of bullets, bomb blasts, and betrayal; DC Universe Online (PS3 and PC), an action-focused super-hero game in a fully realized DC Universe Online; and Free Realms (PS3), a vibrant new world for younger players with an exciting mix of reality and fantasy.

And about the games.

DC Universe™ Online (PS3 and PC):
Explore one of the greatest fictional universes in history: the world of DC comics. Create your own hero or villain and run loose across famous DC locations such as Gotham City or Metropolis, alongside legendary characters of good and evil including Superman, Batman, Huntress, Joker, Wonder Woman and Green Arrow in scenarios written by DC writers and in an art style overseen by renowned DC artist Jim Lee.

The Agency™ (PS3 and PC):
Get your target in your sights with this dark, gritty, online action PS3 shooter, a persistent world of spies, mercenaries and double dealing for aspiring agents everywhere. As you rise through the ranks as a spy through the various missions and in-depth story mode, you can build your own spy faction, recruiting new members to your cause.

FreeRealms™ (PS3):

An all new social networking service and massively multiplayer online role-playing game in one, FreeRealms gives players freedom across a world where exploration and spell casting is as much a part of life as decorating your house or growing a vegetable garden. You chose how you live your life in FreeRealms from day to day – be a wizard one day, play with your virtual pets the next.

DC Universe Online, The Agency and FreeRealms are the first massively multiplayer online role playing games to result from the arrangement between SCEE and SOE – a partnership that will bring gamers together across the world.

Sony had just confirmed that LittleBigPlanet user generated content is region specific. This means you can’t download a level if your friends lives in another region. This gives LittleBigPlanet a huge blow, and people have already begun backlashing on the PlayStation.Blog.

The reasoning behind why, is because each region has a dedicated server in which levels are uploaded onto.

“We’ve got regional servers,” explained Smith. “But we can move levels around on servers whenever we want. But you won’t have access to the Japanese servers,” he added.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe boss David Reeves has revealed that the new 160GB Playstation 3 will be in limited supply when it launches in Europe in November.

David Reeves has been speaking with uk.playstation.com about the new 160GB model and said that the machine will be in limited supply. This is what he has to say.

So what we’re going to do at the start of November is releasing a 160GB Limited Edition PS3. The configuration is exactly the same as the 80GB model, with double the size of the hard drive. It’s a limited amount and we want to see what the reaction of consumers is.

If your looking into getting the new 160GB model especially for Christmas we suggest pre-ordering one because we think it will be a sell out.

Remember way back when Gabe Newell said he despises developing on the PS3? Then there’s this balancing act on whether or not Left 4 Dead is coming to PS3. Well Doug Lombardi just told CVG that developing on the PlayStation 3 is a possibility now.

“We’re always evaluating what’s happening in the marketplace and certainly something that’s happening in the last couple of months is that Sony’s managed to sell some boxes,” said Lombardi.

Lombardi says the PC will be their main choice of development, and the 360 being second. He also says that there is a 50-50 chance of Left 4 Dead coming to the PS3. They are in discussions, but don’t expect it to come out on the PS3 this year if they give the green light.

Killzone 2 Q&A
Posted on August 22nd, 2008 at 7:40 PM by Aerfox

Over at the eu.playstation forums a post was made by BongoFrenzy of questions and answers about Killzone 2. Here’s the list of information:

1)      Q: What resolution and frame rate does the game run at?
A: 720p at 30fps

2)      Q: Will PlayStation Trophies be supported in game?
A: Yes definitely, there will be unique trophies to be won, earned both in the offline game and while playing online.

3)      Q: Will there be a public Beta Trial for Killzone 2?
A: Yes, we are planning on running a closed public beta later this year.

4)      Q: How many online maps will there be at launch?
A: The game will include 8 maps each with their own style and setting, some will be smaller, to suit 16 players others will be much bigger, designed for 32 player matches. If you want to get an idea of what some of these look like, check out the new video on the PLAYSTATION®Store.

5)      Q: How does the lobby system online work?
A: We have taken to heart all the feedback from the first Killzone game and aim to give players as much flexibility as possible. You can list all the games currently being played, and then filter that list. We are busy putting as many different filters in as possible, so you can find a game which is perfect for you.

6)      Q: Does playing offline unlock stuff in the online game.
A: Not directly no, however, there are absolutely loads of things to unlock within the online game, from badges/classes to medals and ribbons.

7)      Q: Media Molecule did a video trailer for LittleBigPlanet featuring Sackboy in a killzone outfit, any plans to do something similar, including Sackboy in a Killzone trailer?
A: *laughter* Great idea! No-one had thought of that, so no… no plans.

8.      Q: Which aspect of the game are you most proud of, which you feel sets Killzone ahead of the competition?
A: There are two things, which we are really very proud of. Firstly the level of customisation available for users to create games exactly how they want them, so we have put many, many different options in there. Secondly we have worked really hard on the community aspects of the game. Clan support and Tournaments are key, also the game integration with killzone.com. Players will be able to manage their clans, check their stats and follow tournaments all online through the
killzone.com web site!

9)      Q: With so many options and different classes and weapons, what are you doing to ensure that the game is fully balanced at launch?
A: This is so important that we really have dedicated masses of time to play testing and QA processes. The whole team logs in and plays during our “Friday Frag-fest” every week, then feeds back their experiences for updates to the code. Also Alpha testing has been intensive, with tests being done for hours and hours at a time.  Finally, we think that the Beta Trial will be key to polishing off the games balancing. So feedback from that will help us make the final touches.

10)   Q: Do you plan on making Downloadable content available after launch?
Yes, certainly we will release additional online maps after launch, we are also looking at other options as well, hopefully we can bring you more information later in the year.

11)  Q: In Killzone on the PS2 you could play the online maps off line against bots, do you plan on doing this in Killzone 2?
A:  Yes certainly, in fact we have expanded this feature so now you will be able to include bots in your online games to! Players will be able to set the difficulty level of the bots in the game, so teams can practise tactics against the bots before inflicting them on the greater public.

12)  Q: What can you tell us about the games ranking system?
A: Players will be able to rank up by gaining points within online games. We have made sure that you will always know how many points you have, as well as how many you need to reach the next level.  One feature, which we are very happy with, is the addition of “Honour Ranks”, this will work by calculating who the best players are each week, and this will give people who buy the game later on a chance to be rewarded for great game play.

13)   Q: Will the game support Home?
A: Yes definitely, although we don’t have any details for this right now.

14)   Q: Many developers have chill out rooms in their buildings, do you?
A: We don’t have a chill out room inside the building, but we do have a lovely Garden which is always nice to sit in and relax.

15)  Q: Have you spent a lot of time working on the story for Killzone 2?
A: We have worked really hard on the entire storyline for the Killzone universe, linking together all the games and offering players much to discover. We are constantly working on the back story as well, with information and details available in the
http://killzone.com/kz/storyline.psml web site.

Many people are slightly dissapointed in Heavy Rain and we’ve heard people say that the visuals have took a downgrade since the tech demo that was shown all the way back at E3 2006. We’ve finally seen some actual gameplay footage of the game, shown at the Leipzig Games Convention 2008 just a few days ago.

Many people thought the tech demo at E306 was just a rendered feel of how the game could look.

We’ve put together a screenshot comparison for you to take a look at.

heavy rain comparison 129x296 Heavy Rain Tech Demo vs Gameplay comparison

If you enlarge the image above you’ll see that the tech demo is almost identical to the actual gameplay visuals. In fact, some of the gameplay visuals look slightly better than the tech demo especially the colouring.

If you want to see both in motion, click here for the tech demo and click here for the gameplay video.

Which do you think looks better, Tech demo or Gameplay?
