After some rumors floating around the web saying that free running game Mirror’s Edge is a Playstation 3 timed exclusive, these rumors are false. Electronic Arts have made a response to the rumors and said:

Mirror’s Edge will be shipping this winter on PS3, XBOX360 and PC. Mirror’s Edge will not be a timed exclusive for PS3.

For those that got their hopes up will be a little dissapointed. Best of all though, the PS3 is Mirror’s Edge lead platform.

Another gameplay video of Konami’s upcoming football game Pro Evolution Soccer 2009. The game is looking far better than last years installment but i don’t think it’s good enough to keep up to the standards FIFA 09 has to offer.

Call it soccer or football – it’s all about the GOALS!

Looking for some Wipeout HD details? Here’s some.

  • The game will run on 1080P @ 60FPS
  • It will have Split-Screen mode, and 8 person online multiplayer
  • You won’t have to use the SIXAXIS
  • The game will support trophies + platinum trophy, which is usually saved only for retail games and not for PSN titles.
  • The game will support XMB soundtrack

Looking pretty good eh. Trophies and custom in-game music, something that a game like this needs.

The long delayed Playstation Home will be released this year according to comments made by Producer Martijn Van Der Meulen at the Games Convention 2008.

“First and foremost, Meulen told me (without hesitation) that it is a 100 percent guarantee that Home will be released by the end of this calendar year. He has absolutely no doubt that this will be the case, so it looks like the long wait to come Home is finally reaching its conclusion.

Meulen also assured me, quite adamantly, that Home will always be a free service — only premium content will need to be purchased. I know some gamers were concerned that once Home reached a certain user base, a fee might be applied to the service, but this is not the case. Meulen says that there are no plans to charge for Home, even in the far future.”

The newest 80GB Playstation 3 units are believed to have the 65nm chips under the hood. According to a buyer of the new 80GB unit, the buyer found out his older 40GB units sucked 125.8-watts when idle. His new 80GB unit sucked 111.9-watts.

Unfortunately, this mighty fine fellow is planning to return the new unit after being disappointed by the minimal energy savings, so he’s not apt to rip the thing open and prove once and for all what kind of GPU is in there.

Basically if your looking for a PS3 that saves power, don’t bother, just buy any.

In an article translated by google on heise online, David Reeves hinted that backwards compatibility will be on all PlayStation 3’s through future firmware updates. He describes it as a long complex process, but it can be done. An example of this is with the compatibility to play SingStar PS2 songs straight on the PS3 version of Singstar.

Reeves said the new backward compatibility with PS2 SingStar titles accurate. It would be using a software emulation realized in a future firmware update. This could all PS2 SingStar impacts directly on the PS3 to play. One need not PS3 SingStar. “We observe, in which titles are still worthwhile, and are likely to be more PS2 games on the PS3 up and running by emulation.” This was, however, a technically very complex process because the necessary PS2 chips PS3 the current models are missing.

If what Reeves says is true, than it would be nice for all users that don’t have backwards compatibility on their PS3s.

Wipeout HD has had a few problems in the past but hopefully that has now been solved since it made a showing at the Games Convention 2008 just a few days ago. Here’s a gameplay video from the day.

The competition is extremely fast, stock up weapons and blow your opponent away.

Over at Kotaku, they got a hands on the Killzone 2 multiplayer for a couple hours at the Games Convention. The multiplayer sounds pretty good, of how they described it. I never played the multiplayer on the original Killzone, but I was into the multiplayer of Killzone Liberation. Looks like I will be spending lots of time in this game, and destructible toilets just made the multiplayer portion more fun. Here’s how they described it:

5.Combat Itself: Killzone 2 multiplayer manages to maintain the fluid speed of the single player experience without sacrificing the looks that get the game featured in so many “look how pretty this game is” magazine spreads. Combat takes place at the perfect speed for me – not Unreal quick, but not Lost Planet slow. Just right.

4. Spawning Mechanics: Dying in Killzone 2 multiplayer brings up a map of possible spawn points, as well as a camera displaying what is going on at each locations, allowing you to pick the location that best fits your play style. When playing with a squad, players can choose to respawn on their squad leader to get right back into the action. Very handy when your squad leader finds himself all alone guarding an objective with tons of enemy inbound.

3. The Badge System: The Badge system represents the different classes you can play in multiplayer, from scout to engineer to medic. Each of the six badges have their own skill sets. Where Killzone 2 makes things interesting is that you can combine the power of two badges to create your own class based on your own particular play style. Want an engineer with healing skills? A stealthy soldier with a bazooka? Knock yourself out!

2. Dynamic Missions: Instead of playing one mission type and then waiting for the new map to load before beginning another, Killzone 2 features dynamic missions, which allows you and your friends to play through multiple game types on one map without loading.

1. Fully Destructible Toilets: Yes, I checked.

There’s a 50-50 chance of Left 4 Dead being ported to the Playstation 3. Valve’s Doug Lombardi has told CVG that support for the PS3 could be on it’s way as the platforms recent success has raised some eyebrows.

“We’re always evaluating what’s happening in the marketplace and certainly something that’s happening in the last couple of months is that Sony’s managed to sell some boxes,”

“So whether or not you like developing for that platform, if they’ve got millions of people connected to that platform and buying their games you have to take it seriously.”

“They’re in the race now, so we’ve got to re-evaluate that for what it is.”

Many are left with a question on when the game will come… Lombardi has stated that it will not be happening this year.

“There’s zero chance of it happening this year. It’s something that’s being talked about right now as the game is gaining popularity and looking like it’s going to be a hit.”

It would be great if Valve supported the PS3, they make some great game such as the Half Life series.
