The Playstation 3 version of FIFA 09 is to have its own exclusive game mode. In an interview at Gamespot with David Rutter, the producer of FIFA 09 revealed new information regarding the next instalment in the FIFA franchise.

“30 leagues and 40 national teams are at your disposal this year, while the magic number of 250 key changes as reported before remain true.”

Rutter said:

“responsiveness, physical play and their affect through attributes, plus the AI.”

A custom team tactics mode will be introduced, 11 sliders or criteria will let you determine how your team plays with 140 attacking and 40 defensive options.

David Rutter promises a to talk about “a game mode exclusive to that system,” referring to the PS3, later in the year.

Playstation.Blog have posted a Firmware 2.4 FAQ. Head over to the post to check the FAQ out. Here’s some of the best:

Will In-Game XMB come up during playback of PS2 games, Blu-Ray discs, and DVDs?

The XMB is an exclusive feature for PS3 game titles. Accessing the XMB during gameplay was the top request from our users, which we focused on for this update. However, we continually engage PS3 owners for feedback and will evaluate the opportunity to offer XMB access during movie playback in the future.

Does 2.4 enable cross game invites? Will it down the line?

No, cross-game invites are not available in this system software update. We are evaluating opportunities to expand on the new features delivered in 2.40.

Can we view PSN profiles/Trophies from a PC using a Web browser? Will there be an API for web developers to access the PSN data, so online profiles can be created?

We’re evaluating these opportunities to expand where Trophies can be experienced.

Ok so we posted about this, this morning, but it now seems like Sony have responded by saying that they have no plans for downloadable Playstation 2 games on Playstation 3.

Sony’s Patrick Seybold said:

“I’m not sure where the image came from,”

“At this point, we haven’t made any announcements, and there are no plans for PS2 downloadable titles on PS3.”

Just like we said before, this rumor could be revealed at E3. We can only hope.

Looks like SOCOM Confrontation has been delayed. Originally planned for a September release, it has now been pushed back a little, back until mid-October.

According to GameStop it will be released on the 14th of October in America.

“Pre-order Ships 10/14/2008″

There was no reason behind the delay, it just got pushed back.

Is Sony ready to launch firmware version 2.4 tomorrow? What i mean by this is that almost every Playstation 3 owner will be up tomorrow awaiting the release of 2.4 as this is the most anticipated and talked about firmware update so far.

Lets hope we don’t bring down the Playstation Network with the flood of traffic by downloading this new firmware (Remember school’s out) and god knows what file size it is. I assume it will be a pretty hefty download.

I can see a lot of people getting frustrated when 2.4 arrives because they are eager to try the new in-game XMB and start earning them new trophies to become to the trophy king.

I’m not going to rush and download this because i know it will be slow and take literally hours to download.

Are Sony prepared? We’ll see.

A new website has launched where you can track your Trophies. Head over to ps3trophies.org and check it out.

“As we grow, we’ll add more and more features to improve your stay here and include some great features like checklists (which are available when we start to add lists) and leaderboards (if Sony supports that technology) for all to marvel over.

We’re no strangers in this part of the world, our sister site, Xbox360Achievements.org is the biggest achievement site on the internet and we have every belief the Trophy system will be just as popular.”

Seems rather interesting if you want to stat track online.

PS3fanboy has confirmed that the Trohpies will not be retroactive, meaning that it won’t automatically add trophies in games you’ve already reached milestones on, you will have to start again.

“Developers will have to choose whether or not to include trophy support. However, if any previously released titles get patched (a la Super Stardust HD), players must essentially start anew to get any trophies. Trophies will not be retroactively awarded based on save data.”

Looks like it will add some replay value to the games we really want to earn them trophies.

The latest rumors are saying that a Playstation 2 Store could open soon. According to this N4G forum post, titles such as Metal Gear Solid 2, SSX and Red Faction could make their way to the Playstation Store. This is exciting news because we will be able to play classic games that were brilliant on the PS2. The Playstation 2 Store will apparently be revealed at E3.

Here’s a picture from the post:

ps2 store 1 394x296 Playstation 2 games coming to PSN?

“Apparently, it wont be released during E3, but is scheduled for a late summer release. Most surprising is that its supposedly launching in Europe first! Guess Sony has realised how valuable us Europeans are to them!”

ThreeSpeech have posted their hands on preview of Sony’s survival horror Siren: Blood Curse.

“Returning to the setting of the original PlayStation 2 Siren title, Siren: Blood Curse takes us on a chilling story spanning numerous characters as they attempt to escape the desolate Japanese village of Hanuda and its inhabitants the ‘Shibito’. While the gameplay mechanics mostly remain the same, this time the game will take a different form: it’s hitting the PlayStation Store in an episodic format split up into twelve separate episodes. Three Speech was dared to play through the first three episodes of the series – here’s what we thought…”
