Reasons why 2009 > 2008 for PS3So what has the Playstation 3 got to offer in the year 2009 and how it will be better than 2008. Don’t get me wrong, 2008 has a very strong line up with the following games being released; Socom Confrontation, Wipeout HD, LittleBigPlanet, Motorstorm 2 and Resistance 2. It doesn’t stop there, 2009 will be even better!
First of all, Killzone 2 will be released at the beginning of 2009, february, which will make a great start to the year. Again, it doesn’t stop there. InFamous, another great looking game that will be available in Spring 2009. Finally Home will be released after being in Open Beta towards the of this year after a fair few delays.
Although Final Fantasy XIII has been made multi-platform and will appear on the Xbox 360 outside of Japan, but most likely sell better on the PS3 because PS3 has from now until the end of 2009 to catch the 360 up. The series has always been more popular in Japan anyways which is why its staying as a PS3 exclusive.
The one everyone has been waiting for, God of War III. Look how good God of War and God of War II looked on the PS2, breathtaking! God of War III is set to raise the bar even further and demonstrate what the PS3 can really do, just like GOW2 did with the PS2. Sony has said that GOWIII could appear in 2009.
Massive Action Game is believed to be released as early as spring 2009, a game that promises a massive 256 player online battle, another PS3 exclusive that will drop some jaws.
Not really a game but a price cut will almost definitely happen in 2009 if it doesn’t happen in 2008. If a price cut is due this year it will most likely be around xmas time. If a price cut does happen this year i think 2009 will see a price cut later on in the year.
Firmware updates – what will be available in 2009? As you know firmware updates have contributed to the success of Playstation Network and beyond and it can only get better via future firmware updates.
Uncharted 2 will be released in 2009 at some point, i can’t see it being release this year at all. Uncharted Drake’s Fortune is a fantastic game and a sequel would be just brilliant.
Gran Turismo 5. Although recently believed that it may not hit the shelves until 2010 it could still make it out by the end of 2009. GT5 will be the most complete racing game, containing a proper career mode.
Have you heard of Heavy Rain? This game is supposed to be coming out this fall but i think it will slip into 2009.
Other games that could be released in 2009
- Wardevil
- Tekken 6
- White Knight Chronicles
- A new Naughty Dog game
- Insomniac Games will release something
- Team ico’s new game
There’s probably more games to come in 2009 these are just some of the highlights. 2008 isn’t over yet with games such as GTA4, GT5P and MGS4 already out and more to come as suggested at the beginning of this post, 2008 will be very hard to beat… can you think of anymore 2009 games? Will 2009 beat 2008?

Europe to get 80GB SKUPresdent of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe David Reeves confirms that the 40GB SKU will be replaced by the new 80GB SKU and will happen on the 17th of August.
Sony will be replacing the 40GB model with the 80GB and the price of the 80GB will be £299.00 or €399.00. David Reeves said:
“In PAL, we will introduce an 80GB PS3 80Gb on August 27th. It will be a simultaneous launch across all PAL territories, and reach Russia two weeks later, due to compliance issues. It will cost 399 Euros or £299. Promotional bundles will arrive between mid-September and mid-December at various prices.”
“The 40GB model will be replaced by 80GB. Don’t ask if we’re going to go down in price on 40GB – the answer is no.”
“This has been planned by Kaz [Hirai] for months. There are very few 40GB models left – especially in UK. We predict we’ll be out of stock by the time we launch.”
So if you waiting to buy a Playstation 3 in Europe you better off waiting for the new 80GB model.

More Final Fantasy XIII detailsMore details regarding Final Fantasy XIII have emerged. Square Enix finally talks about FFXIII since announcing a multiplatform release. You’ll find Square Enix talk about lightning, battles system, the games progression and its place in the series. Check the info out.
- First and foremost, in no way is Final Fantasy XIII delayed because it is now being released on two consoles. To ensure a similar experience on both consoles, Square Enix has set up two separate teams to work on each version. Both of these teams are working along schedule. (Yay!)
- The original Japanese and localized versions of the game will be exactly the same. Square Enix wants to shorten the previous six month localization time between the three major markets.
- The 360 version of the game may take up multiple discs, as opposed to a single blue-ray disc on the Playstation 3.
- Kitase on Lightning: “There’s almost sort of a rejection at the beginning,” [Lightning refuses to fight alongside others at first and] “then the relationship builds from there. The trailer was crafted to portray that theme and get that message across.”
- Kitase on battle system: “[I] took the best of X and XII and created something entirely new and evolved it… there will be monsters on the field but it’s a little bit different from the MMO style that XII had.”
- Toriyama, the director, is focusing on creating a story with good progression. The battle system director is hard at work making sure battles are exciting. Kitase explains that they are working on making sure gameplay and story are well blended. (Monkey Note: Unlike Final Fantasy XII!)
- Kitase on game progression: There is possibly going to be certain moments of the game where the story is very played up and players will be going in a linear direction, but then battles will also kick in at a certain point. [They're] aiming for a good balance there.”
- The team is already casting the Japanese voice actors! Kitase: “In the Final Fantasy series, we’re always looked to find voices that match the appearance and personality of the characters best. So in that sense, we’re looking for someone that is right for the image of the character and has talent in voice acting.”
- The soundtrack will not be worked on full force until the game’s cutscenes are completed, to ensure that scene and music are matched and polished. They would like to incorporate more vocals into this game’s music.
- Kitase on Final Fantasy XIII’s place in the series: “In the grand scheme of things, Final Fantasy XIII is probably very different and new from anything you’ve seen in the series before. But, everybody on the team has played XII and the previous titles and there is an unseen connection there among the series.”

Naughty Dog, developers of Uncharted: Drake’s fortune has told Joystiq that the game will get patched to support trophies. The patch will be available by mid August. Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells has said that the update has already been submitted for quality assurance testing and could be released sooner.
Wells has said that the patch was easy to implement because the game contains preliminary support for Trophies via its Medals reward system.
You will have to play though the game again to gain your Trophies, but is that a bad thing? No, it adds replay value to the game.

Sony: MGS4 on 360 impossibleJack Tretton, the CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America shoot down the biggest rumor of the week. Many thought Metal Gear Solid 4 would follow Final Fantasy and make its way to the Xbox 360.
Jack Tretton has responded by saying no other console could handle the technical demand behind Metal Gear Solid 4. Tretton said that the Blu-Ray capabilities of the PS4 has already seen off HD-DVD and would now see of the company’s competition.
Tretton said:
“PS3 offers an experience for both gamers and developers no other console can match,”
“Metal Gear Solid is not only exclusive on PS3 – it’s only possible on PS3, thanks in part to Blu-Ray.“
“PS3 drove the Blu-Ray format to victory and now the Blu-Ray format is poised to return the favour.”
Its not looking all that gloomy for the Playstation 3, it has a bright future.
